I stopped by Long John Silver’s and grabbed the 2-piece fish meal with fries, hush puppies, and a drink for around $10. Overall, it was a solid experience with a few highs and a couple of misses.
One of the pieces of fish was excellent—fresh, flaky, and perfectly cooked. It had that crispy golden batter that LJS is known for, and the flavor was spot-on. The second piece, though, wasn’t quite as good. It seemed like it had been sitting under the heat lamp a bit too long and came out a little dry. Not terrible, just not as fresh as the first one.
The fries were a nice surprise. Easily one of the best batches I’ve had from this location—crispy, hot, and well-seasoned. Sometimes fries can be hit-or-miss here, but this time they nailed it.
The hush puppies were what you’d expect—crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside, with that signature cornmeal flavor. They always add a nice little extra touch to the meal.
The price was fair for what I got. I considered upgrading to the 3-piece fish meal since it was only about a dollar more, but I wasn’t that hungry at the time. Still, it’s good to know it’s a solid value if I’m ever extra hungry.
All in all, I enjoy their fish and I’ll definitely be back. Just hoping both pieces are...
Read moreStopped there at 5 pm to pick up dinner at the drive thru the speaker wasn't working sign said to go inside so I parked to go inside and the door was locked but say online orders only so I walked around the building to the other door and it was locked also their lights were on and there were workers inside so I made it know that I was out there when they finally looked at me and another man standing there they just kept shaking their heads no! It was dinner time! And none of the employees would explain why they were turning away customers at 5pm I suppose with employees like that they won't be in business much longer. I can't say if the food was good or bad as I never got any! But I can say the service and employees are horrible. I would fire every one of them and find people that care about their place of employment and the customers who pay their wages. The other man that was there said I wonder how they stay in...
Read moreOh. My. God. This is my second favorite restaurant, and is way closer to me than my favorite. On October 20th, 2024, we went to Kuiper Family Farm. We needed a place to eat for dinner, so I made hints to my friends like, "Guys, you know where I wanna go.." and "Since we're in Sycamore..". They got the hints, and we came here. It wasn't the first time we came to this location. The first time we came here was about 2.5 years ago. The 2 fish combo with some malt (balsamic) vinegar is usually what I get. It's undescribable. The service is really good here. Even though they're just behind the counter, they do an amazing job. The atmosphere is, well, fine? I don't know, atmosphere doesn't really matter to me. I rate this restaurant 4.7/5, but I can't do that on Google...
