This place is awesome! We go there all of the time, and the manager happened to be in, I'm Korean, adopted and she brought out some home made Kimthat was to die for.
They had a specialty roll called the no name, topped with salmon and blackened with Cajun spices and a shallot dressing... Omg it was awesome!
The new owners have really taken the place and ran with it. The new deis awesome and the wait staff is very attentive.
If you are looking for great Japanese food, sushi and some awesome Korean dishes as well this is the best place in the area!
EDIT 2018
My family and I have been coming here for years, ignore the negative reviews those are from people crying because they made demands that were outrageous. Like that Ted Wagner guy who wanted the place to substitute some of the sashimi for Market Price Uni and Toro which is 8 bucks each and are to die for.
The owners have worked hard to keep this the best sushi place to eat in the state! Their fish is always fresh premium grade sushi and I have been to a lot of sushi places and nothing compares to this place. They have watched my kids grow up, and we have gotten to know the staff really well. We even had our wedding dinner here and it was phenomenal!
If you want great food and great service this is the place to come. We eat here at least once a month. We come here when we are celebrating something. Hands down...
Read moreI want to start out by saying I have never left a review for a restaurant before. But I’ve eaten Omi on so many occasions now and I love it so much, it’s about time. Out of the 25 or so sushi restaurants I have eaten at in my life, Omi is probably my clear favorite. It is unquestionably the best place to get sushi in the Dekalb/Sycamore area. It absolutely blows Fushiyami and everywhere else out of the water. And that’s not even a knock on Fushiyami or any other places, it’s just a testament to how great Omi is. When it comes to their sushi, every roll I’ve had (which is many of them) is delicious and high quality. Their rolls are consistently perfect every time. I’ll be honest, I’ve only eaten a handful of other items off their menu other than sushi but nothing has ever been less than excellent. Not only is the food phenomenal but the people who work there are wonderful as well. I really feel that they care about the customer and want to provide the best possible service for you in every way. If you want to dine in, eating at Omi is a comfortable, easygoing dining experience. Or if you want to takeout, the food will be just as delicious at home. And I’d say the prices on their food are on par with other high end sushi restaurants. Their lunch specials are really where it’s at. I could not say more positive things about...
Read moreThe people there are very nice, I’ll start off with that. I ordered 3 rolls and 1 piece of sushi for pick up. Mexican Roll: Very good. Crunchy California: I’ve had better from a market (Pete’s to be specific) and elsewhere. Avocado Roll: Yuck. Didn’t even finish it. The avocado wasn’t cut to order because it was black and brown over way too much of it-and it tasted like they sprinkled lemon juice or something similar on it to preserve it (which didn’t work). I understand it’s not practical to cut open a new avocado for every roll, but it was lunchtime and I was actually a little early to pick up my food and it was literally just an avocado roll, you should use fresh cut to order avocado in that case. I’m huge on not wasting food but I threw away the rest of it. It even burned my throat, which was not pleasant. Avocado is amazing on its own, how do you mess that up?!
Tamago Sushi: This was pretty good. Not the best I’ve had but not the worst.
I paid almost $30 for lunch and it was decidedly NOT worth it. I doubt I’ll ever go back. Maybe it was an off time or something, but I’m not willing to spend the money to find out. I’ll go elsewhere when I want...
