Manuel's Steakhouse & Bar — Restaurant in Del Rio

I HEARD GOOD THINGS ABOUT THIS PLACE. BUT DON'T KNOW BECAUSE THE SERVICE SUCKED. GOT THERE AND WAITED FOR 10 MINS UNTIL AFTER A FEW WAITERESS LOOKED AS US AND FINALLY THE HOSTESS CAME TO US TO TELL US THAT SHE DON'T KNOW HOW LONG THE WAIT WILL BE CAUSE THEY ARE FULL. IF A RESTURANT SEE PEOPLE WAITING THEY NORMALLY ATTEND THE COSTUMER AND TELL THEM THE WAIT TIME. TO ME THIS HOSTESS WAS INEXPERIENCED AND I GOT THE IMPRESSION THAT IF THEY IGNORED ME, JUST MAYBE I WOULD GET THE PICTURE AND LEAVE. ANYWAY MY FIRST EXPRESSION WAS NOT GOOD. SO I WILL NOT BE GOING TO THAT PLACE AGAIN BECAUSE I GOT THE PICTURE THAT MY MONEY ISN'T GOOD ENOUGH FOR MANUEL'S STEAKHOUSE... So update...I decided to give them a second chance today; two weeks later. I walk in and the hostess said "do you have a reservation" WHAT! Since when do you need a reservation in DEL RIO out of all places! Are you kidding me? I said "no" and she said "because I have no tables avaliable". "Soooooo what is the wait time?" I can tell that the hostess was not even prepared for my follow up question. It was like an awkward moment while I waited for a response, which by the way, it was not registering in her brain that I was waiting for a response. So I left with out her even telling me. I remember fondly the Manuel's In Acuna, Mexico. It had great food and exceptional service.

The establishment in Del Rio leaves much to be desired (it's rubbish). From the waiter who, after ignoring us for 12 minutes, greeted us with "what do you guys want to drink". Took another 10 minutes to bring the drinks and another 15 minutes to take our order. (by addressing us with the friendly greeting "what do you guys want") The appetizer ("mollejas") were rock hard. The waiter then, 3 minutes after bringing the appetizer, proceeded to bring the main courses. The "tacos de bisteck ranchero" tasted dreadful (like someone had taken beans, beef and salsa and placed it in a blender and moistened it with sweat from a gym sock.) . The chicken fried chicken was tasteless and the gravy was far from fresh (ha the tales this gravy could tell from the days of yore). The kids chicken fingers tasted like they had actually been made from the fingers of a chicken as they were hard and quite tasteless. The stake and shrimp was only salvaged by the shrimp (not bad at all) as the stake was not seasoned and was more gristle than meat.

In short overpriced and dreadfully awful. I will never return to this establishment and hope The Berain family will take steps to improve it. As for me i will live on my memories of the...

Terrible experience. No utensils. No chips & salsa. No water. We were literally stuck in a corner and had to ask several times for service. Then, our waitress didn’t listen, kept interrupting, and could not have been more disinterested or unhelpful! Our entire order came out wrong, including my drink which was literally filled with chunks of rock salt (no salt ordered). Absolutely inedible. The bartender was going to charge me to make a new drink, and the dour waitress told me she was going to charge me for a new meal after she brought me a meal I had NOT ordered! My friend said “you’re going to make her eat a meal she didn’t order?!” And the waitress said “Fine. I’m just going to get yelled at” and angrily snatched up the plate, took it back to the kitchen, and then brought it right back out again with a big glob of sour cream on it! 😳 We should’ve walked out right then but we were staying at the hotel next door and on foot and starving - so no other options. So we tried to eat our meal and realized it really didn’t matter what we had ordered because the food was bland and tasteless anyway - it all tasted the same.
