I generally am a fan of Rudy's, and like the one that I normally visit in Colorado Springs, Colorado. I was happy to find one about 1/2 mile from the hotel where I was staying today when in Del Rio Texas, and walked up to it, arriving about 7:15 PM. I found the help at this Rudy's nowhere near as friendly or "helpful" as the one in Colorado springs, although they did manage to at least get me what I wanted.
However, I do have one BIG problem. They had a live Country Music band playing. I am somewhat of a Country Western person and like that type music, and this band seemed to be pretty good, however they were BEYOND loud. I had major problems hearing the person who was helping me with my selections, and finally just assumed that he knew what I wanted. They were so loud, that I could not eat inside the restaurant. Fortunately they had outdoor seating, and it was a nice evening, so I managed to find a fairly quiet place to eat, however even outside with closed doors between us, it was very easy to hear the band.
I may be the exception to the rule, as perhaps everyone else didn't have a problem with the volume, however in my case, it made what I hoped would be a good experience, almost unbearable, and bearable only because of the outdoor seating.
I was by myself, however had I been with others, and had we wanted to talk during dinner, there was no way that it would have been possible. I also noted that the owner posted a reply to my review. It seems to be a standard one where they state that they want me to contact them directly, and gave an E-mail address. Had they checked, they would have seen that I did contact them directly from the response area of their contacts on their website. If they are going to respond, it would be nice if they could personalize it, rather than a standard canned one, which seems to be...
Read moreMy husband and I ordered online for takeout on Wednesday, December 28th while passing through the area. We had dined at this location one year prior and we honestly thought for a chain that the BBQ exceeded our expectations, so we were looking forward to dining here again. Unfortunately, our BBQ was definitely sub-par on this visit. My husband opted for the pork sandwich with coleslaw and potato salad. He felt the pork was underwhelming, as was one of his sides. I opted for the 1/2 pound of brisket, a 1/2 regular sausage, and the creamed corn. My brisket was oh so dry, and the sausage was just lackluster. My corn was quite good, but should really be called corn soup/chowder than creamed corn because it's more cream than corn. Our sweet teas were not chilled and were not very sweet so we ended up tossing them. It was over $40 for a pretty lackluster lunch. We did end up using the leftovers. Since we knew the brisket was so dry, I ended up reheating it low and slow with lots of butter and serving it in fresh flour tortillas and it was vastly superior to the first time we had it. We also threw the leftover sausage into a pasta dish, but it was still subpar and even gave us upset stomachs. We'll be avoiding Rudy's in the future because there are just too many other good, even great, BBQ options in this part of...
Read moreSo first off - This place is amazing. Second - it's affordable! This was our first time so we got a customized shpeal, along with samples of meat (and the green chili soup).
I got a loaded baked potato, which is so giant my son ate part of it and we still had a full meal the next day on the left overs. Pretty intensely large potato.
In the restaurant, my son has the pulled pork sandwich. Delicious. I really liked the original bbq sauce but my son preferred the sweeter (less spicy) sauce.
All of this good BBQ while getting gas for your car at the same time. Loved the environment. It's family style seating and the vibe is just laid back and fun. This whole thing was an experience. 5 stars! I definitely...
