First time experiencing this place. We absolutely loved it.
The ambiance: warm (in temp), inviting, comfy, and non-pretentious. Family friendly. Volume was all chatter, no music to interfere. The walls were painted w grape vines and orange leaves decor lined the ceiling along the crown molding. It was not a large place, but it was comfortable.
The food: was delicious. The portion sizes were very generous (huge might be another word). I loved that they brought bread & dipping oil right away while we read the menu. We got the bruschetta and toasted ravioli appetizers, and there was so much food the two of us could've been done right there. The entrees and deserts were the same, large portions and delicious. After appetizers, soup, & salads, and entrées, we took a lot home!
The service: was very friendly and very competent. Ex, at one point, the server made a mistake bringing the wrong item... she politely apologized and was back in only a few mins w the correct item. She checked back often and never left us waiting for a long period of time.
Our experience reminded me of an old restaurant in up north WI we used to visit some 30+ yrs ago. Sadly that place burned down in a fire, but now we have another place to revisit that's much closer to home. We will...
Read moreOh my! We just happened upon this place while out for a drive, an early anniversary dinner, trying to get away from work and from computer screens. We were greeted pleasantly, and seated immediately, even though we didn't have a reservation. The ambiance was perfect; good music, not too loud, the place beautifully decorated for autumn, flickering candles on the tables and comfortable chairs. Our server was friendly, knowledgable and experienced. Every bite of the food was fantastic, from the warm bread and herbed dipping oil, to the mozzarella appetizer, and the salads, which came with the entree. They actually give you enough dressing! We ordered two dishes, angel hair pasta in garlic butter sauce, with Italian sausage and mushrooms, and cheese stuffed tortellini with meatballs and marinara sauce. The portions were huge and we couldn't eat much of them because the appetizer and salads were filling, but we had the leftovers boxed, along with a brownie and a piece of chocolate peanut butter cheesecake to take with. I am happy to report that like a lot of Italian food, it was even better the next day - with yet another meal to come! Plus both desserts were fantastic. The bill was around $100.00 for the two of us. Can't wait...
Read moreMy date said the lasagna was excellent, and he would order it again. I ordered salmon, a gluten free entree served on a bed of wilted baby spinach with a light lemony cream sauce--plain, but good, and not oversalted. The delicious clam chowder was definitely homemade--or, it fooled me. The restaurant walls were decorated in charming old world murals...with cheesy red foil Valentine's hearts hanging on the picture frames, here and there. Five-star table settings--we're talking extra silverware, glassware, and red cloth napkins. A decorative bottle of red wine graces every table--you open it, you pay for it? Our table wasn't drinking, but it added to the charm. This place has all the ambience you need for a romantic dinner out, if you get the right table. The senior in our party of three arrived for our 5pm reservation early, and was placed in the corner, right by the passageway between the bar and the dining room, and the entrance to the men's room. If you are out on a date with your one and only, that is not the best table. They open at 5pm. But the service and the...
