Rodeo Whip Ice Cream — Restaurant in DeLand

Mckenzie took my order.. First let me say the place has been here for years a local favorite - built on quality ice cream and good customer service... Well, tonight Mckenzie acted like we were bothering her when taking my order... Followed by what they dont have and do have in different sizes.. Okay, no biggie.. I understand I was patient.. I asked what flavor of dips do you have for the ice cream tonight. She said: Chocolate & Cherry. I said, okay ill try chocolate... And based on her description of what they had available, i chose chocolate large soft serve on a waffle cone. Then they gave me a plain none dipped cone. Told me after i paid that they cant dip a waffle cone! During our discussion at my order, you would have thought ....She would have told me no dips in waffle cones...But, nope it was after, i asked what flavor dips they have & I told her ill do chocolate. Would have been nice to have gotten this detail at order.. Then, i wouldnt hv had to wait in a line for a cone i didnt order and an attitude toward me when i asked for a refund. That i had to wait for! Ugh..Very disappointed with Rodeo Whip. Been coming here since i moved to Orange City in 1989ish time frame. Guess, their name and past customer service is gone with the wind. Guess we live in a new normal where customers are not given the service they once...

Have always came here during my trips to FL to visit family, but with COVID many things have changed and unfortunately the staff is one of those. The location as with the area have a mask mandate which require masks to be worn by their employees and guests. This is indicated by many signs posted inside and outside the store. While going there today (08/2/19) at 4:30pm a group of 5-6 unaccompanied teenage boys were sitting in the building waiting for their ice cream all without any masks in their possession. When my grandmother asked them why they were not wearing them inappropriate words as with rude remarks were made towards her and myself regarding people that wear them and that they do not believe in wearing them, although it is the current law as with being posted multiple times that they are needed inside the building in order to be served. In addition 7 other masks wearers were inside this building at this time. When the employees were asked why they served them while they have many signs posted that masks are required none of them had answers apart from making sure everyone had ordered. It was one of the most baffling and rude experiences I have experienced yet in this state. This unfortunately is no longer a place we feel comfortable going into again even after COVID due to the disrespect that was provided by...

I will start this off by saying I am sad to give this a 1 star review. I have been countless times and consider their ice cream one of my favorite comfort foods.

That being said, I arrived at 10:02PM on a Friday evening. I went to open the door to learn that they had closed at 10PM due to being “short staffed.” They are normally open until 11.

I started crying and the worker asked if everything was okay. I explained that my father had passed away the night before and I was just looking forward to a milkshake. They explained that they would go inside and ask the manager if they could take my order. As I stood there, I could see them go inside and proceed to tell the other workers what I had said and they began to laugh and mock me as if I was making up the fact that my father had passed just to get ice cream. They then came back outside and said that unfortunately they could not take my order.
