See update below. On a recent trip to Selbyville, DE to visit a relative, we went out for dinner at their suggestion. We were a party of 5. We were seated immediately even though it was a Friday night in a vacation area. We ordered drinks & then ordered our dinner selections. One was a veal Parmigiana with angel hair pasta, another veal with penne pasta, the 3rd was Ahi tuna & small cheese pizza & the 4th was mussels which was a special that night. My order was the mussels & the special soft crab sandwich. First they delivered the mussels to one of our party. Then waited a bit then I was told that there were no more mussels. Why I wasn't told when they dellivered the 1st order I don't know. So I waited for my soft crab sandwich. The orders were brought out . The veal dishes were excellent. The Ahi tune & pizza were superb. Then my soft crab sandwich. The long rectangular dish contained mostly french fries. And then there was my soft crab sandwich. The soft crab looked like it had lost a claw in a fight because he was the smallest soft crab I have ever seen. How he lost it I don't know since they can't move when the they slough. I buy them regularly & have never had one with only one claw. The appearance of this sandwich was beyond belief. This was not a $20 soft crab sandwich. Two of them may have made a sandwich but not just one. The French fries were lukewarm & soggy. Even other party members tasted them & agreed. The soft crab split into 4 parts for 4 bites. I was so upset that I did not choose some other item. I ate the 4 bites of crab. Passed on the roll, the slice of tomato & shredded lettuce. The person that ordered the pizza offered me 2 slices which were delicious. The waitress offered to take off $5 but I should have just sent the whole dinner back & asked to take it off my order. I have to say that the other dishes were excellent. But in a vacation seafood area, the soft crab was pathetic. If you want to see a real soft crab sandwich from a place in Baltimore check out Dylans Oyster Cellar in Hampden, Baltimore.
UPDATE TO 1ST REVIEW: Visited on 12/28/2024. I was highly dissatisfied on my 1st visit. I have to say that my 2nd visit was not like the 1st. There were 3 of us in the party. The food & service were superb. The food was served in a timely fashion. Food was hot & excellently prepared. This night had a number of specials. One was fried avocado & shrimp. This was the highlight of the evening. Outstanding combo. The steamed mussels were great. All were open shells & none that did not open. This was a rarity since usually there are at least one. The iceberg lettuce was excellent as well as the meatball sliders, bacon potato skins, & french onion soup. Hats off to them on having Allagash draft. I believe my 1st visit was an off night. Will definitely visit them again & hope they still have the avocado/shrimp on the menu. Thanks to all in the...
Read moreEvery time I go to the beach, I stay in the Shelbyville area and this is normally the first place I go. I've used their carryout services several times and have never had an issue. The food is good and friendly service.
On my most recent visit I decided to go to the restaurant and check it out. I entered and was immediately greeted by the hostess who asked if I wanted to be seated at a table or the bar. I elected to sit at the bar which was about half full. Here's where the stars start going down.
When I sat down I waited for about 5 minutes for the bartender to acknowledge me. She made drinks and spoke to other patrons seated around to me but continued with her business. Finally, she asked if wanted anything to drink which I gave her my order. Remember, the bar was only about half full and everyone else had their drinks and/or food.
Another 15 minutes goes by and she asked if I wanted food and I again gave my order. The last bit of communication I had with her after that was to ask to settle my bill.
As I sat at the bar, more patrons entered and there was a clear distinction between the service locals were given and those from out of town. When a local entered, she was friendly and bubbly. She would immediately take their order and had their drinks ready almost instantly. She engaged with them and her temperament completely changed. Not the same for everyone else. It was almost an unwelcoming vibe. Very noticeable.
I won't base my restaurant experience on the one visit and will give it another chance. Maybe she had an off night or worked a long shift, who knows. What I do know is that I would've given them some good business that night but instead had my one drink and appetizer and left. I went to the liquor next door, grabbed some libations then to Harris Teeter for snacks and enjoyed the rest of the...
Read moreEATER BEWARE!!! Where to begin... I placed a delivery order today July 12th, 2016 at 12:43pm. My order consisted of a "taco salad" and a 2 liter of Pepsi. The person who answered the phone informed me that my order would be to me in about 45 minutes. The order arrived to my work in Selbyville at 1:27pm.. The delivery driver had zero personality at all. I didn't get a "Hello, how are you?" or anything to that nature, just simply my total mumbled. I handed the delivery driver the total plus a $3.00 tip for his service regardless of his lack of personality. I then proceeded into my work where i opened up both bags, one containing the "taco salad" and the other, the 2 liter of Pepsi. The Pepsi was fine but I cannot say the same for my "taco salad". The lid was opened on the to go container and a good amount of ingredients were spilled into the bag and no silverware to eat the food. Ok, not too big of a deal. I proceed to pull the "taco salad" out of the bag onto my desk at work. At this point I notice that the ground beef literally looks as if it were made yesterday and reheated in a microwave for my order. The ground beef had dark almost crunchy bundles of meat throughout the tiny amount of meat they put on this poorly made "taco salad". I wish you could upload pictures onto this review just so you can see this. This "taco salad" is literally 80% huge chunks of iceburg lettuce, 5% tomato's, 5% tortilla chip crumbles, 5% shredded mild cheddar cheese and another 5% of leftover ground beef from the previous days lunch. I ended up not eating any of the "taco salad". Instead I went onto google, created a account just so I review how horrible my first and last experience with this place was. DO NOT EAT HERE!!...
