June 13th, was the first and LAST time I will ever step foot in Ole Tapas. After seeing the coupon and looking at the menu online, my friend and I were sold. Everything looked amazing, so I called and explained, to the girl who answered the phone, that I had a Groupon and wanted to place an order for takeout. She takes my order and says that it will be about 20 minutes, but I waited 30 minutes before heading to pick up the food. I figured that it was a Friday night and they might have been busy, so I gave them some extra time. When we get there, we are directed to the bar area for pick up. After we wait an additional 20 minutes, the food comes out and I hand the bartender the Groupon. He then tells us that he believes we have to dine in, but he would double check with the owner. The owner comes out and confirms the information, so we apologized for not reading the fine print and decided to dine in. After we pick our table, a waitress comes over to take our order. We explain the situation to her, place our order again, and wait for our food to come out. After about 15 minutes, a portion of my friend’s food comes out. When she takes her first bite, the food is cold. At that point we realized they did exactly what we were hoping they wouldn’t do, which was take the food out of the to-go containers and put them on our plates. We continue to wait for the rest of the food and sure enough everything comes out cold and with poor presentation. Once everything came out, we decided to ask for to-go containers because we no longer wanted to stay after such horrible service. Even if they were going to use the same food, they could have at least heated it up. So of course we were fed up and wanted to leave. We were hoping to simply get the containers, pack everything up, and go home. After another 10 minutes of waiting, the waitress comes out of the kitchen with a weird look on her face and has all of the containers already in a crumbled plastic bag. When I go to reach for the containers I notice that the insides of them are wet and had residue in them. Turns out they gave us the SAME EXACT containers that we originally had. The waitress then tells us that they made her give us those containers, which was absolutely rude and unacceptable. Never in my life, have I been treated so poorly at a restaurant. They told us we had to dine in, so that exactly what we did, but we were still treated poorly. That is when we asked for the owner. Instead of coming straight to us when he comes out of the kitchen, he looks our way and walks, in the opposite direction, toward a family and starts a conversation with them. He finally comes over to us and we express our concern for the poor service. As he is responding to our concerns, he never once apologized for the way were treated nor acknowledged that they did anything wrong. He just kept telling us that the Groupon was for dine-in only and that he gave us the used containers because he knew we were just going to get the food and leave. We did not want to leave until our food, that we patiently waited for to be cooked, came out cold. Then things just got worse from there and after being there for over an hour and being treated so poorly, we ended up just walking out. It was an absolutely unbelievable experience and I am still appalled by the disrespect, lack of concern, and horrible service. I am definitely...
Read moreMy first and only experience with Ole Tapas was on Friday the 13th and it was a true nightmare. My friend and I purchased a Groupon deal for the restaurant and mentioned it multiple times when ordering our to-go order on the phone. The hostess clearly did not know the menu well and could hardly give us directions to the restaurant, but that is beside the point. When we arrived at the restaurant we were told the Groupon was only valid for dine-in. The owner came to the front and confirmed this. While we had discussed the Groupon on the phone and been told it was acceptable, we realized it was our responsibility to read the fine print and agreed to sit down. When our server came to the table we let her know we had already ordered what we wanted before, so we just want the same things for dine-in. We expected them to remake our order and serve them to us hot and fresh. Our four plates were brought out a different times over a span of 30minutes and were not warm or fresh. They had literally taken our food out of the to-go boxes and threw them on plates. At this point we were extremely upset at the horrible service and disrespect. We just wanted to leave, however, we had already paid for our Groupon, so we asked for boxes. Our server went back in the kitchen and came out with a bag of to-go containers and a foreboding facial expression. The owner had given her the dirty to-go containers our food had been originally put in. I was livid. We immediately asked to speak with the owner. He came out of the kitchen, but stopped to talk to people on his way over to us, making it clear that he had no care for our concerns about this service. We told him why we were upset and that the service was unacceptable and quite frankly disrespectful. Instead of apologizing, he tried to justify his actions, admitting to giving us the same food and dirty containers! I am disgusted by the experience I had tonight and would never step foot in that place again. I cannot confirm that this was an act of discrimination, but we were the youngest and only African-American customers we saw in the restaurant. The owner was both rude and unapologetic. I am still in disbelief. Worst service...
Read moreUPDATE - must read!! My previous review absolutely needs an update. And I can't think of a happier occasion to update a review. At one of my previous visits, something out of the ordinary occurred and my experience was not the best that I have had at Ole. I am not a fan of people who type in all caps, but I really want to emphasize my next point... OLE WENT ABOVE AND BEYOND TO MAKE MY EXPERIENCE AMAZING AND CORRECT PREVIOUS PROBLEMS. I had written my review, and had emailed the restaurant. I was contacted by the Owner, and was asked to come back. I did, and brought with me someone who had never dined there in order to also get a fresh perspective. I can only recall one other restaurant where the service and the food were as outstanding as when I returned to Ole. The service was impeccable. We had one server and one trainee, but both were amazing. They were personable, attentive, accommodating (particularly of my pregnant status) and knowledgeable. They were also funny, kind, and eager to make a wonderful impression - which they did. The food was also above expectations. We were able to have many items from the menu that I have never tried at any of my previous visits and I look forward to having again. On top of each of these "extras," my fellow diner and I noticed something that is almost even more indicative of the restaurant. The staff and owner were just as gracious and wonderful to the other diners. There was a mother with two small children who we noticed, as she was leaving, thanked the owner for all the little extras that made the night special for her and for her little ones. The kids were happy and excited. We overheard the table next to us talking about how much they loved visiting Ole. There was also a couple at the bar who appeared to be having a wonderful time. I can't speak highly enough of Ole. They truly changed my one bad experience into an excellent experience that created a loyal advocate. If you haven't been here before - you...
