Just left here and I told the guy working ( he said he was born in Chicago) that I was going to leave this review .
Cathy let me say I am an army veteran and My friend Jeff who is a Ferguson board member recommended this place and he was not wrong ( he is also a veteran)
This place immediately felt very sweet and at home, the menu also just speaks to your tummy lol. It took me a minute to choose because everything looks like it really is made with love. I am Mexican and Italian- I am also a mom so I know what good food looks like, and girrrrrlllllllll!!!!!!!!
Anyways- I am also from Chicago and I have only been in STL for like two years so I had to hit up that Italian beef.
Review - First off I’m not a big fry person but those French fries are on point w the cheese sauce lol, bomb, I’ve been dieting for 3 weeks and those fries did me in.
Beef - dipped nicely - bread delicious and I got the provolone the way it’s supposed to be done: .
So advice. In Chicago when people order a beef they say this
“ beef - dipped (or not - it’s really a preference) sweet peppers ( green peppers on the inside ) and Giardinier on the side.
The guy that worked there claimed, “ we got the flavor is right but the bread is still not right “
In my opinion the flavor and bread were perfect BUTTTTTt. What I would change to make it more Authentic is to add sweet peppers (just green bell peppers chopped into kind of large squares ) in the beef/broth you cook all day, AND when you sell the sandwich give the Giardiniera on the side because not everyone likes all that spice it takes away from the great taste of the Italian beef. In Chicago no one puts the Giardiniera on the beef - you get it in a little cup and add it on when you get home, That is the true Chicago and Italian way. The beef in this sandwich is amazing- it’s soft, falls apart. Best I have had in ST Louis but I’m telling you take my suggestion and I promise you more Chicago people will be like …. How’d she know to do this?
We will be coming back and this is now one of our regular spots. We have a few places we rotate out by kids are gonna be so excited about this place because they love and miss their Chicago Beefs lol,
Stay...
Read moreCathy kitchen was great! The prices are a little high somewhat more of what you would expect from a dine in restaurant that offer more courses in their dining experience. I really enjoyed the food. The staff especially the a young man at the counter was very courteous and helpful. I ordered the Friday special which consisted of Three wings, a Catfish filet, and 6 shrimp and a side of fries. For around $30.00. Not to mention the cabbage in a cup, called slaw which came with the original order....Overall, I think that the prices were due to the atmosphere and modernized kiosk use to place the orders and well known celebrities who have used her catering for events who are displayed over all the wall in the establishment... It tend to cater to the mid to upper class which creates a safer more hospitable customer experience. Weeding out...
Read moreBeen ordering from Cathys for years which might have to stop since they opened the new location on West Florissant. I go to pick up my $65 order no greeting or friendly smile and an attitude is what I received, when I called the location and spoke to the “manager” Michael he made it worse, to be in leadership he lack training or implementation to be in that position. He had no empathy, kept saying okay in a defensive and I don’t care manner. I’ve been in customer service and management for over 20 years so I know how to talk to people. I refuse to give money to some place who finds this to...
