I loved my visit to Hunan Gardens Chinese Restaurant located in the BocaRay Plaza. My friend suggested an early bird dinner and I am always excited to see what she likes. Hunan Gardens is a family owned restaurant that has been in business for over 30 years. The classic Chinese restaurant decor is very elegant and the restaurant is impeccably clean. When I saw that the customers were skewing elderly I knew I was in for a treat because they always know the best places to eat. The early bird menu has a page full of meals that included an appetizer, soup, rice, main dish, and ice cream for dessert. You can also order off the main menu. We started with the delicious fried noodles that were brought to the table. This is something I frequently throw away with my take out Chinese food but here the large fried noodles are something to be savored with the mustard and duck dipping sauces. The pipping hot wonton soup that was served was swimming with two flavorful pork filled dumplings. For my main dish I had the delicious Happy Bird ($19.99), a dish made with crisp vegetables, beef, chicken, shrimp, and scallops. I paid the upcharge for the fried rice and was pleased with the amount of pork in it. Our meal also included a pot of tea which I enjoyed with my meal. Dinner ended on a sweet note with a dish of pistachio ice cream but if you are so inclined Lily's Handmade Ice Cream is in the same plaza. I was the envy of the teachers lounge when I whipped out my leftovers for lunch the next day. This restaurant easily stands with the best of the Chinese restaurants of south Florida.

Walking in, I immediately was torn between remembering Lichee Gardens in Plainfield NJ and a Seinfeld episode. It felt like 1965, and I was loving it. That, and the fact that I, unlike most of the patrons, had neither an aide or a walker. Reservations fill rapidly, and while walk-ins are welcome, be prepared to wait. You'll definitely meet someone you know while waiting. The service was exemplary, especially given how busy they were. The food was good. Of note were the steamed dumplings, homemade and cooked to perfection. That, and the soup, could have made a meal. Speaking of soup, we got the hot and sour soup. Well I can't say it's as good as Mott street, I can say that it was pretty close. Perhaps a little too much sodium, certainly not enough, but that was easily fixed with hot oil and white vinegar, which they happily brought. What I wanted for dinner was a shredded chicken with hot peppers. Well that's what I ordered, but it isn't quite what I got. Instead what I wound up receiving was a chicken with celery and carrots that was quite tasty, but not what I was after. Because they were so busy, I decided to let it go and just enjoy the food. My partner got spare ribs, which she said we're out of this world. While I would not ever say it was as good as going to Chinatown in new york, but it wasn't bad for 15 minute drive. I'll be back...

We started with some soup. Very nice Wonton soup, reminisant of NY style. On the table is spicy mustard, duck sauce and they bring a pot of Tea. The wonton soup had an aboundance of pork and scallions. Also on the table are fried wide soup noodles. All was good. The egg rolls came out with the spare ribs as apps. The ribs were just ok not the best I have had, and the egg roll was taste the outside a little thick but fine. We then received our main dishes I had the double saute which was shrimp and chicken with a side of pork fried rice. All was good for Florida chinese. As close to NY style I have found in a while. Service was excellent! Two sections to the dining room.

We came tonight for the 1st time. We're from NY, it would remind you of an old school Chinese restaurant inside. We're seated immediately, kinda rushed, but it was fine. Once the waitress came over, she was very nice, very accommodating to us, since we also had our 1 year old grandson with us. Took our drink, dinner order etc. Soup arrived immediately piping hot and brought my grandson veg noodles. Which he loved. The wonton soup was delicious. Ordered a combo diner. We both did. So much food, it's was really good!! Think old school Chinese restaurant. Man behind me was having ribs said they're great!! Good to know. I had chicken chowmein which i love and it didn't disappoint. My husband pepper steak. Said steak was lil tough. But everything else on our plates, rice, egg rolls were delicious. This is the part that was so upsetting to me. While seating there, people watching, a couple came in and sat down. No more then 10 min went by and they're announcing to the restaurant no one had come over to them, they were leaving. Only to be met at the door by the hostess reseated them and called the staff over to them. They were eating in minutes. Another man berated his waitress because he asked her for a tooth pick. She told him, they're on your way out. If I ask you to get me a tooth pick you get it for me. Don't tell me I have to go get it myself!! I was floored. Who was this person!! Now the restaurant is filled with all senior citizens. My husband and I on the cusp, We Would never treat anyone of the waitresses waiters at the establishment the way some of these people were talking to them. Get me more chips. There's not enough sauce. I was floored how this staff was treated. They were all very busy and trying to accommodate there customers. People if you can't respect the staff in a restaurant, your not entitled, then don't go out!! Order and pick it up because I doubt anyone of them has food...

Do yourself a favor and don't EVER eat here. Their sub-par food is way over priced, probably twice the amount of other comparable Chinese restaurants. It's run by a husband and wife team, and the wife is extremely rude, arrogant and miserable. I noticed a distinct pattern after reading some of their other reviews on Yelp - this woman has continually ruined the customer experience at their establishment.

We recently ordered a $50 meal, which I had to pick up because they were "too busy" to deliver. After arriving home with the food we realized the meals were completely different then what I had ordered. I called back and the wife answered (she had taken my order over the phone just 30 minutes prior). She told me that I was wrong, and that I had indeed ordered what they gave me. She screamed at and insulted me, and told me that she doesn't have time for me because she had other more important orders to take care of.

All I had asked was for her to either reimburse me for the wrong orders, or to make the correct orders and I would drive back again to pick them up. She said the only way she would give me the correct orders was if I brought the wrong orders back (was she planning on serving them to someone else?!). I told her that we had already eaten a piece out of the meals, which was how we determined that they were incorrect. She then laughed at me and refused to remake my order.

I feel robbed and utterly insulted. Their blatant lack of customer service ensures that we never patronize them again. Mediocre, overpriced food and lying,...
