This was our first time trying out the restaurant. I've been wanting to try it out since moving into Denton a year and a half ago. I came from an area of Fort Worth riddled with authentic mexican food, so I can be a harsh critic. My 11 year old daughter had the spicy enchiladas with refried beans and rice. She chose the cheese version. She was very impressed. She did not think that there was much spice nor did Dad. I however, thought they were pretty hot. It wasn't too bad. It hit not all the way to the back of the tongue, but the area right before it. It did not blow out my taste buds. I think most Texans would find it pleasant. I although am a wimp. I had the chicken feast to try a variety of choices. I subbed out the quesadilla for an extra enchilada, had double rice with no beans, and a pork street taco (plain, no onions or cilantro for me.) As you can imagine, I am beyond full and have at the very least another full meal ahead. I can not say anything negative about this plate. These were by far THE BEST sour cream chicken enchiladas that I have ever had. I love sour cream chicken enchiladas period. My 24 year old daughter and I both have tried various recipes to create the sauce which I could pour on almost anything. These kick out butts. I beg that they tell me the secret someday. The amount of chicken in each enchilada was unreal. It was almost as if they were double stuffed. The chicken and bacon flaunts was scrumptious. The street taco was also good. Maybe a little too good in relation to the quality of meat inside versus what you find in the taquerias. My husband had the pechuga de pollo. Unfortunately here lies the only negative and my reason for 4 instead of 5 stars. While the sides were fine, the chicken itself was extremely fried out and did not have any real flavor like the lemon butter listed on the menu suggested. We all know cooking a boneless chicken breast can be quite difficult. I think maybe this one should go back to the drawing board. I was very very pleased with our waitress. When I told her my feelings on the food both the good and the bad, she was very apologetic. I did not expect anything to be compensated for the dry chicken. We figured that you don't always get what you want or expect. Some people may love this option. I just wanted to pass on our experience to the staff. She offered to replace the chicken with something else. My husband was full at this point not having been very hungry to begin with. He did have most of the chicken left on his plate. After speaking with her for a few minutes, it was decided to send him home with some sour cream enchiladas for later. This is how businesses especially restaurants should be with respectful customers. If I had been a jerk then no, but because we had a normal nice conversation, I feel like everyone walked away happy. The restaurant is small, but it gives that down home small town of feel where you expect to see a few of your neighbors during a meal. We had to wait a few minutes for an indoor seat, but at that time of evening I am not surprised. They worked quickly to get us seated. Service was prompt, but not pushy. The waitress let us take extra time to paroose the menu, be checked back in an thoughtful manner. Drinks were refilled without lapses. All in all it was a great experience with just one little hiccup. I wish I could award partial stars. If it were possible than it easily would be a 4.5 or 4.75 rating. We will be stopping in, or picking up some yummy...
Read moreWe went here for lunch. The service was adequate. My girlfriend and I ordered lunch plates. After being served the delicious Salsa (and typical chips), we notice that there were no napkins on any of the tables. Hmmm, cheap on the napkins, I thought. We asked for napkins, along with "extra's," but we only received three. When the food arrived, the "Street Taco's" looked like it had deer scat for meat (round pellet-type #meat?). The Brisket Taco was very good, but the Street Taco's were pretty greasy and we ran out of napkins. When we noticed that the Street Taco's arrived with no lettuce, tomatoes or cheese (not to mention, no Avocado?) , we quizzed the waiter. He stated, "it doesn't come with all that." He saw the disappointed look upon our faces and asked, "Would you like me to get you some?" We told him, "Yes, please." When the bill arrived, we had been charged an extra $2.50 for a few shards of lettuce and a few pieces of diced tomato. We had to share the small dollop of Sour Cream that came on only one plate. With a soda and Tea, the total bill (with a mere $2.00 purposeful tip) was almost $30.00. The portions were small. $30.00 for a small lunch? Perhaps if we had drank some alcohol (and we don't), it might have seemed better. But, no one ever makes good decisions when intoxicated. We don't live around Denton/Corinth. Next time we come to visit, we will go back to Chilito's in Lake Cities or Mi Casita in Denton. Sorry, but we won't "Come Again!" Just being...
Read moreMy family and I LOVE this place for Mexican food. We have gone here a handful of times since recently discovering it. Every time we have been, we have had above-board service, excellent food and great drinks! I probably should be giving it 5 stars, but I think it is just a little too expensive to go much more often than we've been able to afford.
The homemade salsa is great. The chips are fresh. The drinks are exceptional, especially the mixed drinks. It's hard to find good bar drinks anymore. You know, the kind where you can actually taste the alcohol in them - but not too much alcohol that it overwhelms the taste of the drink. Perfect in my opinion. They've got a really great bartender for sure.
Food has always tasted fresh, not like it is sitting in the kitchen all day and put in the microwave to warm it up after it's ordered. It tastes like they made it when you ordered it. It is flavorful, and the portions are on the bigger (but not too much) side. Again, just about perfect.
Everyone is kind and attentive, they check on the needs of the tables frequently, and the atmosphere is pleasant with a positive energy throughout the restaurant.
If you haven't been here, I urge you to check it out. If you have been here and have left a less than stellar review, I urge you to check it out again to give it another shot. I wish more places...
