My partner and I visited to celebrate the 4th anniversary of our first date. Our bartender, Benjamin (who was nice and polite, when he was present), asked us for some notes on what we like in our cocktails, and improvised some drinks for us, which were overall pretty good.
The small plates menu is primarily seafood and sushi. No one asked about allergies, so before Benjamin rushed away I made sure to mention my partner has a shrimp allergy. The response I got was, "That is a relevant think to mention!" Kind of a weird thing to say, since he didn't ask about any dietary restrictions. We ordered a few sushi hand rolls (pretty good) and two baked oysters (just OK).
Things went downhill when I slid my thigh across my bar stool, and scraped it pretty hard. I didn't realize it at the time, but the front edge had a chunk of the wood missing, which left what felt like a splinter in my thigh. Ouch.
I flagged down the other bartender, and told him "I think I just got a splinter from the bar stool." He mumbled something like "oh my gosh" and picked up my broken stool and rushed it out of the room. I grabbed a stool from the other side of the bar, brought it to my spot, and sat down. Not the end of the world.
However, I got really annoyed when that was pretty much the last interaction we had with any staff member for 45 minutes, until we closed out.
It's not like I was bleeding all over the bar, but it was definitely a bit painful. At the least, I'd expect someone to come by and see if I was okay, ask if I needed a band aid or something, or at least apologize for the inconvenience.
At that point, my partner's drink was already empty, so we traded sips of my drink for like 20 minutes. Then we sat there for another 25 minutes or so with empty glasses and plates until the bartender (the one who had rushed out with the broken stool) walked over to pick up my empty cup of ice and peer into it.
At this point I was annoyed, with a hurt leg, so I asked for the check. He did make sure to let us know that 20% gratuity had been added (I get it; I used to work as a server). He took my credit card, put it into the hand terminal, set it on the counter in front of us, and left again without saying anything. I closed out the check, got up and we left.
I dunno... I wanted to like this place based on positive reviews online, but the whole end of the night was just weird. I get that they got busier. But if you're sitting at the bar for 45 minutes, I feel like you should be offered something. And definitely, if a customer scrapes themself on your broken furniture, you should at least come back and check in to see if they're alright.
The vibes are just very pretentious. But, if you're marketing yourself as an upscale place, then the service should be decent. The bartenders spend a lot of time doing tricks and flourishes behind the bar, but don't pay attention to their customers' needs.
For me, it was a really disappointing way to spend our anniversary, but hey, at least they have a nice view of...
Read moreOur bartender George made this a 5 star experience, without him going above and beyond it would probably be a 4.
Had some insanely good drinks that he made that were creative and more unique than almost anything I’d had before.
The food was good, everything was a touch spicier than expected which was pleasant for me but not as much for my wife. Highly recommend the pork belly and sampling the hand roll selection. I also love kimchi and their trio was excellent.
Downside was that the timing seemed off. Took awhile to get each course of food and our handrolls initially went to the wrong table. We were in no rush and gave us more time to enjoy our drinks.
We also lucked out with a beautiful evening and sunset with the garage door open. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a unique drinking experience and enjoyable...
Read moreCool spot that has a lot of potential - I’ll probably try again after a few months… but tonight our service was very odd and over the top - not in a good way. Drinks are crafted individually- no menu. Waiter asked just one question of both my husband and I before creating some intricate (and expensive) cocktail. They were OK, but would have been nice if he asked more than one question to narrow down our tastes. When serving the drinks he stated “I will tell you the ingredients when I find it relevant” and walked away. This came off very arrogant. Sushi rolls were ok - but you will get a much better bang for your buck at many of the other amazing sushi restaurants in Denver (Berkeley sushi co is amazing in this neighborhood). 3 cocktails and 2 dinners (totaling 2 oysters, 8 hand rolls and 2 small desserts - total)...
