We received fantastic service from Tyler behind the bar. Along with being on point with service and drinks, go to chat with him about scuba diving or traveling in general. He has been to a lot of places. I love going to this place, and some of their happy hour specials are great deals.
Been back twice more. Mondays are HH all day, Caleb gives you perfect service behind bar, the Nixtamal Nachos (I actually said I was sad when they were done) are a great HH choice, and we plan on getting the Mexican Shrimp Cocktail next time. Great energy in this place all the time.
Still waiting for the other shoe to drop, but, in the meantime, I will just keep posting 5 star reviews for our visits here. We love the place overall, but for some reason, the bar seats make our time better. The bartenders, no matter who we get, are on point. Very good training and filtering are evident. As an ex-bartender, I appreciate their approach to each shift...and it shows. Now, to our last visit. Maybe we go there for the tacos...but we don't. We go there for the service and...the QUESO. It is magical. Pic below. So, go get a bar seat, get flawless service while eating incredible queso (order the queso fundido (get the nolcaceta salsa on the side) while you are analyzing my feedback), and then ponder your food options. A) they have great HH options, so you do you, and B) I leave you with some notes. My wife loves the blackberry soda drink on HH. I love the Paloma or the Sesion beer (for $4). I usually am a sucker for the barbacoa and the pork belly, but I just got the Pincho Pollo and the Fish and Beer and they both were great. But, know that the pork belly is not a bad option if on the fence. If testing your day's luck, try and get a spot in the back parking lot. They are tight spots. I think you should drive in a square, find a spot on the next block, and go to Three Dog after your tacos for some pool. I definitely ALWAYS recommend, and see you there.
LAST VISIT: If you are not getting the vibe from my past reviews, this place rocks. Some new review info from last visit.
Michael had served us before, but he reminded us again of why we love this place so much. We have sat at the tables, but our experiences are better at the bar...because we are bar people. They had a special strawberry serrano marg and it was delicious (pic below). Michael is from New Orleans if you want to chat with him about that. We had just spent NYE there. The Sesion beer on HH is WELL worth $4 and my wife loves the blackberry soda drink. They have HH EVERY day, and that is crazy for the Highlands area. All day Monday HH, even though my review is for a Saturday. The diablo sauce is the BOMB. We have already discussed getting pint purchases of this. I see no reason why you shouldn't read this review and NOT go there immediately aside from the fact that I forgot to take a pic of the incredible HH nachos. Sorry. The bathrooms are in the hallways between all of their liquor stock and employee lockers, and that makes you feel even more a part of the family. Matthew, their GM, was undercover in a black T-shirt behind the bar when we got there, but I busted him in his collar shirt before we left. He is important. Nothing but a great experience here, folks. Definitely recommend, and see you there.
Still five star. Just went there Friday. I love sitting at the bar, but the outside heating area was great still. Becky was our server. She was great. My wife's go-to is the blackberry soda, and the lager is only $4 during HH. The queso is in my top five in Denver. Get the house salsa as a side and you will be happy. My only complaint is that they do 5% kitchen love. I am fine with 3-4%, but I am a 22% tipper, and 5% cuts into that. Anyway, it is still a five-star rating, and we...
Read moreHad the absolute worst experience here and would not recommend anyone to dine here. I called prior to arriving to find out if there was a waitlist and how long it would take to be seated for a party of 2. The hostess let me know there was no wait and plenty of seating at the bar, high tables, and at sit down tables. It took me about 15 minutes to get there and indeed there was plenty of places to sit. When I walked in the host did not ask us where we would like to be seated and immediately sat us to the back of the restaurant near the garbage and there were flies everywhere. Within 30 seconds of sitting down I got back up and asked the host if we’d be able to move outside, mind you we watched 2 parties leave from the patio area when we arrived and there were no other parties that arrived after us. She went to go check if there was seating on the patio which there was, she came back and said she just needed to clean the table and to give her a few minutes. After a few minutes she came back to our table and apologized and said she would not be able to move us and that it was her fault for promising she could and that she was new and was “not aware of the weekend rules”. Apparently on the weekend you can not move tables after being seated but during the week you can? Never in my life have I heard of that out of all the restaurants I’ve been to. Now, I could understand if the restaurant was packed we would not be able to move easily due to well there are no seats available, but if there is ample amount of seating why cant you move? I felt extremely uncomfortable and felt like me being a person of color had something to do with it. Why would we not be able to change seating in a half full restaurant with no waitlist after sitting for 30 seconds but if it was Monday there would be no issue? Theres no answer that seems justified. To add, when I told the host we’ll be leaving she said “okay have a great day” like what!? I will never ever recommend this...
Read moreWhile driving cross country, we decided we wanted Mexican food in Denver. If you google Mexican food in Denver, 3-4 names regularly come up but we chose Tacos Tequila Whiskey on 32nd Ave. When we got there we greeted promptly and seated by the manager. He inquired if we had been in before which we replied no and he described the restaurant and specials. We settled on street tacos and tried a variety of 4-5 different ones. We also saw the special torta was served with French fries. Being from Idaho, we asked another server for a side of fries too. The served told us that the fries were only for the special and could not be sold as a side but would check with the manager. The server began to bring out our tacos and an unexpected thing happened. The manager came out with a fresh order of fries after hearing our request. Needless to say that the customer service was top notch.
Quick review of the street tacos. We got the barbacoa, carnitas, fish, asada, and pork belly. All we presented with flair and tasted even better. The protein in each taco was moist and well seasoned. The dressing on top of the protein was colorful, plentiful, with just the right amount of spice. My favorites were the pork belly and the barbacoa! The crinkle cut French fries were hot, crisp, and delicious.
As we were getting ready the leave, the manager came by and said that he was having a complementary order of churros made if we could wait a couple of minutes. Of course we did and it was so worth it. The churros were hot, cinnamon sugar perfection with an extremely tender and delicate center. He said he enjoyed talking with us and wished us good luck on our long roadtrip.
Great food, personable customer service, and an above and beyond attitude makes it easy to recommend them if you are ever in the mood for awesome Mexican...
