"MISO SHOULDN'T TASTE METALLIC" I am struggling to understand all the 4 and 5 star reviews which led us to try Taki's out.
I just brought home our takeout, and the entire (first) experience has been one failure after another.
When we ordered, they said the order would be ready in 15 minutes. It arrived 25 minutes later and we were told they couldn't find the order, it had never been entered, they lost it.
So it would be another 15 minutes… (it was actually another 20). FAIL#1
When I got home, I found the order was wrong. We received a different appetizer than the one we ordered, and one of the salads was wildly wrong - seafood instead of cucumbers good thing no one here has the very common shellfish allergy, right?? FAIL#2
By this time, I am thinking that with all those great reviews, the food had better be damned amazing! No. Oh no. Amazing it was NOT.
I had pork ramen. The ramen, sprouts, two sketchy smelling "aged eggs" and a few scant veggies were packed into a plastic container all day until all of it smelled like the eggs, and all of it was a single, congealed mass. No way did this meal look recently or freshly assembled!
The miso was packaged separately, and it didn't even have the typical miso aroma when I tasted it. There was no brewed soy beans flavor at all.
It did not taste like any miso I have ever been served, and I've been eating it for I think about 45 years if my math is right. The pork was flavorless, rubbery, and UNDER Fing COOKED!
I did not finish my ramen, it was gross.
My wife did not eat hers at all, it also had the strong metallic flavor (typically a symptom of using way too much MSG) FAIL#3
So we're out over $50 for our order, and we're still hungry.
As first impressions go, this was a disaster. We will never give Taki's a second chance. F 'em!
This was not a single minor glitch.
While I was waiting for my food, another fellow stormed out because his order had also been lost!
This is a pattern of fail. Obviously no one is in charge.
I'm pretty sure you can find better Japanese food almost ANYWHERE else including...

Yuki is the kind of sushi spot you want to gatekeep, but it deserves to be celebrated. I came in for a casual lunch and left completely blown away — this place is legit. The highlight of my meal was the Aburi Hako, a pressed sushi roll topped with perfectly torched salmon and a brush of house-made sauce that bordered on addictive. The warm, melt-in-your-mouth texture and delicate char gave it an elevated, smoky flavor that rivals anything I’ve had in bigger sushi cities.
The tamago was soft and subtly sweet, and the unagi was rich, glossy, and paired beautifully with crisp vegetables. Even the plating was thoughtful, served on a wood board with fresh ginger and just the right amount of garnishes — understated but refined.
The service was chill but attentive, and the vibe matched the neighborhood: laid-back, a little hip, and deeply committed to quality. Yuki nails the balance between cozy and refined. If you're anywhere near Highland Square and even remotely into sushi, this...

I had the Akayuki ramen +egg. It was great I really enjoyed it. Perfect level of spice, the pork belly was the best pork belly I have had just wish there was more of it. Seriously I could just eat a bowl (or 3) of the pork belly. Just to knit pick the broth was good but felt like it was missing a bit of something to round it out, maybe a bit more salt, but really that's just being extra picky still 5/5.
Also had a crispy eggplant bun, which was very good. The eggplant was perfectly crispy on the outside and soft inside. The slices of beet really tied the whole thing together.
My father had the sushi plate and thoroughly enjoyed it. He was very impressed with the thickness and quality of the cuts of fish.
Service was excellent. Everything about the...
