I visit Iowa for work often (about one week out of every other month) and Lua was on my radar from the last time i was out here. Made it an effort to come when I was in town this last week.
Beers were good, lots of sour beer options which surprised me (pleasantly) because I find it hard to locate a brewery with various sours on tap. It had a cute and inviting atmosphere, very rustic industrial with the garage door opening to the outside patio, making you feel as if you're outside even when you're inside. I'm from LA, and they even had the Dodger game on which was a plus for me!
But to be honest, if you're there to eat, the food isn't great. I got the burger and is was sopping in grease, it had no flavor, and my friend's Korean chicken sandwich was so dry she couldn't finish it. I hadn't eaten since earlier that morning (I was plane hopping that day) and even though I was starving, I found it hard to finish the burger. I definitely will be skipping this place for dinner in the future and probably only will come back if i want to watch a game with some beers. If you're looking for a good variety of beers with AMAZING food, Iowa Taproom i found to be a good place to satisfy both of...
Read moreThis was our first visit and really enjoyed it. We tried all of the house beers, each one well done to style and delicious. There were two sours, two hazy IPAs, a hefeweizen, and a stout that we tried. The guest tap list was also varied and excellent, including one from Ayinger not commonly on tap.
We ordered the Korean chicken sandwich with fries and thoroughly enjoyed it thoroughly. The fries are some of the best we've had in town - just the right thickness and cooked to perfection.
The staff was attentive and courteous. The ordering system was organized and expedient. They had counters with digital registers attended by servers for both food and drinks. This helped alleviate the typical awkwardness of having to squeeze in between people at the bar to get the bartender's attention and order. It also took the guesswork out of the bartender having to figure out who to serve next. I hope more bars and restaurants adopt this system.
We will definitely return and we'll look forward to more delicious...
Read moreWe took my boyfriend here for his birthday, he had been before, but it was everyone else's first time. He was worried that everyone would be disappointed with the menu, I assumed because there was limited options, but it was simply very foodie for the group. Everyone but I got the smash burger, which was delicious, but all mentioned they would have gotten chicken fingers if given the opportunity.
Staff was wonderful, especially considering how packed it was in there. I think the ordering system was helpful, and wish more restaurants would implement an "order from your phone" type thing, particularly if they are understaffed. from what I saw, everyone working seemed to enjoy it, were super friendly, and willing to joke around with us, and give great beer recommendations.
As far as the beer goes, that is my boyfriends domain, and Lua is one of his all...
