Lived in NYC & NJ up to 9-11 and then move to the Midwest. Been in Iowa since 2014 and never knew about you guys! Someone just told me tonight. I miss my favorites; Sarges Deli, Katz’s and of course 2nd Ave Deli, all in Manhattan. I need some matzah ball soup and a bagel with lox and a smear! See ya soon. :) Update! Went to this place today Sunday 3-10. I ordered the pastrami and corned beef on rye bread with mayo, lettuce and tomato. And I also ordered a bowl of the matzoh ball soup. As I compare everything I eat out to the food in NYC /Jersey where I lived for decades, I will do the same here. The sandwich was huge, juicy and simply extra delicious. I ate half of it with the soup and had the other half wrapped up for later or tomorrow. The same as compared to back east which is unbelievable for Iowa. Although the matzoh ball soup was very good it was not exactly the same as back East, but well worth the money and like I said, very good 😊! The owner introduced himself and best part was, Rabbi Jacob is from Brooklyn, NY. My dad (RIP) was also born there as well. Thanks guys for a great NYC style Sunday meal!

I went on a Wednesday at 12:15. I had the Roosevelt sandwich, a side of macaroni salad, a pickle and a diet black cherry Dr. Brown’s soda. The star of the show was that sandwich! It was on a marble rye bread. I don’t care for rye, but that sure didn’t stop me from enjoying that sandwich. Next time I’ll ask for a different bread. The pastrami was excellent. Pastrami is not something I’ve eaten very often, but trust me, I’ll be back for another one of those sandwiches. Service was good, nice friendly people. There is a little grocery area, a gift section and a table for dine in. There’s not a lot of room for dine in, but it’s open. Staff was wearing masks. This is close to my place of employment, so I’ll be back often.

Please excuse the picture, as the portions were really were generous. I was too busy eating and forgot to take a picture until I was almost done. Had an excellent breakfast here last Sunday. The Challah French Toast (Sunday only) may not be on the physical menu but it’s worth asking for. I had plans to get soup ā€˜to go’ but I was stuffed. After eating, my boyfriend and I had a great time chatting with the Rabbi. He seems like a very respectful and kind man. His helper (daughter??) seemed sweet as well. My only sadness is the deli (like most) closes before the majority of people get off work so picking up dinner on the way home isn’t really an option. Guess I’ll have to stock up on Sundays.

My wife, and I, along with my kids, have been coming here since the "old days". Long before this great deli looked like it does today. This week before last, my wife Andrea, and myself, came in here for our last time before we move to Alabama in May. It was on our "must do" list before we left Iowa for good. We were blessed to not only see Rabbi Jacobson for our visit, but his very kind wife, too. I had informed them that I had been diagnosed with cancer during the summer of 2023, and his wife immediately told me to read the Psalm number relating to my age. Which is 56 right now. In fact, I was told to keep reading this Psalm. How wonderful it is to walk into a deli expecting to grab something to eat, and at the same time receive wisdom and blessings. As a Christian I have always felt blessed, and fortunate, to know Rabbi Jacobson and his family. He's always taken care of me, and I will definitely miss my visits to Des Moines to see him. Shalom, my friend, and thank you for so many wonderful years of good food and...
