La Mie Bakery, nestled in Des Moines, stands as the epitome of culinary excellence when it comes to breakfast and brunch. With a captivating ambiance, this bustling establishment exudes an inviting vibe. The attentive staff manages to provide swift service, even during peak hours. Over the course of our visits, we have had the pleasure of savoring a wide array of delectable dishes such as Scones, Omelettes, Sandwiches, and Scrambled Eggs. Each visit has been nothing short of exceptional, as the food consistently leaves a lasting impression with its tantalizing flavors.
Renowned as a haven for pastry enthusiasts, La Mie Bakery boasts an unrivaled selection of freshly baked goods, alongside a delightful assortment of coffee beverages. Notably, the prices are reasonable in comparison to similar establishments encountered in various cities. It is evident that quality takes precedence here, as the food and service consistently surpass expectations. A visit to La Mie Bakery is an absolute necessity for anyone seeking an authentic brunch experience or indulging in the finest French pastries and coffee in Des Moines. Additionally, the menu offers an extensive range of other culinary delights, including bread, macarons, sandwiches, cake, and an array of breakfast options.
While the drinks' sizes may have experienced a slight reduction since our previous visits, the superb quality remains unaltered. The pastries, without fail, capture the essence of culinary excellence, delighting the palate with every bite. However, it is important to note that parking and seating pose the most significant challenges at La Mie Bakery. The limited parking lot frequently reaches maximum capacity, necessitating the search for street parking in the surrounding neighborhood. Furthermore, the seating accommodations leave much to be desired. Due to space limitations, seating is assigned only after placing an order, and signs throughout kindly request patrons to limit their table occupancy to a maximum of 45 minutes.
Nevertheless, one must not overlook the convenience offered by La Mie Bakery, as they readily accommodate takeaway orders. Despite these minor drawbacks, La Mie Bakery remains unequivocally our preferred destination for a memorable Saturday brunch. It caters perfectly to couples, smaller groups, or anyone seeking delectable pastries on the go. Moreover, their captivating cappuccino reigns supreme, rendering competing establishments such as Starbucks and Caribou inferior in comparison. In fact, it casts even the esteemed Fredricks Coffee into the shadows.
In conclusion, La Mie Bakery stands tall as a premier establishment, captivating breakfast and brunch enthusiasts alike. Its inviting atmosphere, swift service, and mouthwatering selection of pastries make it a must-visit spot in Des Moines. Despite parking and seating challenges, the unmatched quality of their offerings and the ease of taking away orders solidify its place as our go-to destination. La Mie Bakery truly redefines the art of satisfying brunch experiences in Des...
Read moreFirst and foremost, the waitresses/service is great. Always been so friendly and kind. Whoever the cooks are terrible, because my order was always incorrect.
The only reason i went back so many times, after my orders were wrong is because my Mom works there. But, the way they treat their empolyees is outrageous, to not goo to much into detail, the owner, yelled and CURSED at not only my own mom but 2 other ladies who are
servers/waitresses.
To tell you the least about my mom, she has been offered to be a supervisor there because of her work ethic. She simply did not take it because they did not want to give her the benifits(a raise that clearly happens when you get more responsibilities; vacation days ect.) that come with that job would carry on,so she declined respectfully. my mother worked her way up to being a waitress, she was a baker/prepared the pastries and such.
And now not only does she do the tasks of a waitress, helping prepare coffee or even helping with the register at times, but is bilingual and helps train other new employees, all at the same wage.
As an employee of a small family owned buissness, i know that if i would have been humiliated and talked to like that, i would simply walked out. That is UNACCEPTABLE. Its a shame anyone who believes its 'ok' to talk to anyone like that . A good buissness is carried by a good leader.
was once a loyal customer, who reccomended ALOT of people, but i will never...
Read moreI'm updating my previous review.
We went to the small farmers market at the Playhouse last Saturday, then went to get a "to go" lunch from La Mie to support them during covid. There is no indoor seating anymore.
My husband had on a mask and I had on a full face shield. We support restaurants requiring face coverings and thought we were meeting their mask requirements. We stood in line with appropriate spacing. All this to say that we were respecting their covid rules. Not troublemaking.
Well, when we got to the register to pay, the bald guy at the register, that I have seen many times before, throws a blue paper mask at me and says, "You have to put this on." I had not been looking at him when he did this, and flustered I said, "What?" He pointed at the mask now laying on the germy table and repeated himself. I had my husband take my shield as I put on my homemade clothe mask out of my purse. We quickly paid and left. I think I was in shock over his rude behavior.
Seriously, folks, you can not make this stuff up.
What happened to kindness in the last few months? Are masks making us not see each other as fellow humans? I had had pleasant exchanges with this same man prior to the lock downs.
It really is a shame. No more La Mie for me I guess. I will miss the friendly French cafe, because it no longer exists. Alas, it is...
