Maria's Mexican Food — Restaurant in Des Moines

This is the first time I've eaten at Maria's (they have a drive-thru which I think is really unique for a Mexican restaurant!) but also have a dining area as well! I have been wanting to try it for awhile now. I read the reviews, and they were very good. Customer service was excellent. They make sure to read back your order EXACTLY to ensure you get everything you pay for (CAN'T SAY THAT FOR MOST OTHER DRIVE THRUS!!!). We had a big order that was ready within 5 minutes! We had a (2) cheese enchilada combo (with rice & beans); a (2) enchilada combo - one chicken, one cheese; (3) steak tacos (they come with pico, guac, & sour cream, but we didn't get the guac); one Pork burrito, and chips & salsa. The Pork burrito was really big for only $5.99! They only put guac & pico inside it though, and since we don't like guac it was basically meat & pico; however, I'm sure you can add anything you want if you ask! The chips & salsa were amazing, homemade chips and the salsa wasn't spicy at all, had a sweet flavor to it, which my daughter & friend loved... I liked it, but wld rather it not have a sweetness to it. So, the rice & beans were yummy. Chicken enchilada has shredded chicken, but the cheese enchiladas NEED WORK. I LOVE cheese enchiladas, and was pretty disappointed with their's. When it got cool, it was almost like when you take shredded cheese, microwave it, and then let it cool: kinda hard-ish? Not much flavor either. Idk if they always make it that way, or they ran out of something, but ill never order a cheese enchilada from there again. Thats why I took 1 star away. Otherwise, everything else was very yummy, LOVED the tacos, great price for lots of steak, etc! Will definitely come back soon for...

This bad review is mostly for the drive thru guy or the receptionist, but you know, he represents the restaurant, so I guess it goes for the entire unit.

If you are Caucasian or Hispanic, well you have great service because of the obvious. However, if you are anything other than the aforementioned ethnicity, let me tell you- TURN AROUND AND GO TO ABELARDOS for a better more race friendly service.

This is my review after giving it a chance for 5 times. The 5th time did it... As usual they ignore you in your face, murmur some Spanish look at you and laugh. I have waited 50+ minutes for an order this time (other times were 30 mins-ish long). I saw (WHITE) customers come and go. His Hispanic regulars came, eat and leave happy but there I was waiting for a delivery of 3 tacos. He happily greeted every (WHITE) customer that came and offered water for (WHITE) delivery drivers. I guess getting validation from (WHITE) customers is very validating. I left without my food, as hungry as I was, I was full from eating the cold treatment that person gave me. I am sure this business will bloom with the customer service the majority Racial customers receive.

This review is a mere warning for others who do not want to get such a cold treatment which is pretty obvious. There are other cleaner and locally owned places around that will care for you and your money and time will be...

So unfortunately I have a bad review for this place I too noticed with my history I come here and I eat a lot I get the same thing pretty much every single time I come and within the last couple of months I have solely gotten the same thing and it's always been $10 the lady that is in there now is very rude she is not good with customer service she charged me $14 exact same thing I get all the time now when I ran over my transactions and looked at the history it says $13.11 13.13 and these are all four items that are the same thing now when I try to call up there and ask why I was charged extra she proceeded to tell me that the prices in the menu are incorrect and she does not know she just rings up what's on the computer then call back and somebody picked the phone up and leave the phone down and never came back to it this is a pending charge since yesterday morning what should have been completed it's not completed because this lady is a scammer and she is trying to take more money off of my card obviously I will not be eating at this restaurant and again...
