Panadería La Mona — Restaurant in Des Moines

The place is nice and clean. You are able to see the baker cook on the side of the building, and even inside. No debit or credit card accepted, cash only. Like the majority of Panaderias there are no prices. Although the prices are fair. For three pieces of bread I paid $2. You can park in the front or on the back of the building. The reason I gave a 3 star is because there was no labels saying what each bread is and I got a bread that wasn't what I thought it was. The breads didn't look too familiar. I saw several familiar breads, but some of them looked a bit off. Living in Los Angeles, Texas, and Mexico, I am used to seeing a variety of looks and flavors for specific breads. My favorite is Budin. Now, budin looks and tastes different per bakery...but it tastes great! Now...I bought what I thought was budin based on the shape and cut. The color looked off, a bit orange. I also bought a concha -which was good- and another bread that I wasn't too sure what it was but might taste good. When I tasted the budin, the flavor was way off. The texture was too soft, it was a bit firmer than pumpkin pie filling and it tasted like pumpkin. I wished there were labels saying what bread is what. We placed an order for our wedding and the bakery failed to write down the date of our wedding after we told them. When we came to pick up our order, the cashier was disrespectful and told us it was our fault that we didn’t give them the date. The cashier was beyond unprofessional and continued to blame us the whole time. In addition to her behavior she was not wearing a mask despite the city mask mandate. Also left confused since she called the owner and told us they would make them deliver them to our venue. Once the call was over the cashier told us they couldn’t do anything since they baked them the weekend before which contradicted what the owner was trying to do...

I cannot believe I never tried this place till just recently. There is so many delicious breads to choose from, its amazing just how they make these taste sooo good, and always something new and delicious. Very reasonable prices. The only thing that i have a problem with is I dont speak nor can i read espanol, and there is nothing written in English. People, ya got to try this, lol, I...
