Tsing Tsao South — Restaurant in Des Moines

Fake Reviews: I don’t know who they are paying to write the positive reviews but there is no way they are real. I should have went to Hy-Vee. I ordered from here because I didn’t want mass produced food that was under a heat lamp all day, which is exactly what I got. I ordered the General Tasso chicken. I asked for no vegetables and extra spicy. Half the chicken was dry and half was soaked which is a clear sign it was just scooped out a big pot and they couldn’t even be bothered to pick the vegetables out. The food was also incredibly bland. The egg rolls were luke warm at best, I was saying in a hotel 1 minute from the restaurant which means they had been cooked earlier, or more likely defrosted and microwaved, and then left to sit for hours. The egg drop soup was so watered down it was almost clear, it was almost like they took a small soup and doubled the water to make it a large. The only silver lining to his whole experience is that I was just visiting DesMoines so I will never have to subject myself to this abysmal...

To me, customer service is possibly more important than the food served at a restaurant. I have never had as bad of an experience calling in an order to any place as this. The person who answered the phone had zero patience from the beginning of the call, and only got worse as I was reading off orders. Also when I asked a simple question about if the soup came with everything or not, I was met with a sarcastic response of "I already told you what the soup was." That definitely wasn't the question I asked. I was put on hold twice during the call, and was met with growing impatience every time.

The real frustrating part of this whole ordeal was I had 5 orders. It should have been a 30 second call. Instead, because of the giant rush to get a person off the phone who had never called or been to their restaurant ever (me), the call turned into 4 minutes including the hold times. Originally when I called the restaurant to see if they delivered to my address a woman answered the phone and her response was "we don't deliver use door dash." She immediately hung up without giving me a chance to say thank you.

I decided to order delivery from here anyway after reading all of the amazing reviews. The food was delivered faster than the expected time and everything was hot and smelled great.

The portions were disappointing compared to the price. I couldn't believe they were using mini shrimp in the fried rice and egg foo young. The egg foo young was drenched in some type of liquid and vegetables. I thought I was given the wrong food upon opening it the first time. The taste was bland from all the liquid covering it. It looked more like a soup.

I definitely expected a bit more flavor and bigger portions after reading reviews. I would not order from here again and it's on my list of least favorite Chinese places...
