I been going to Motor City Soul food since 2012 and I'll share my honest experience with you.
Majority of the time I get a meatloaf dinner with sides and in 2012 it was around $10 dollars... NOW it's $15 dollars which is $3 - $5 dollars higher than other soul food places and the cost of a regular steak dinner.
So, if you're planning on getting 2 dinners you better take at least $40 dollars with you.. Remember my meat loaf dinner is $15 dollars.. So you get the idea how high it can be...LOL
The pork chops, chopped turkey breasts and chicken wings is good just LOOK at the pieces they give you to see if it's a nice size for you. If you get chicken wings DON'T expect a lot it's a small number that they'll give you.
YES.. Their food is more pricey than most soul food places, but there food 85% of the time is the MOST tastiest than most soul food places in Michigan.
YES... The parking lot is very small and tight. Sometimes you might have to park on the side or sneak across the street to the corner store.
Also, the line inside can be very long, so majority of the time you can expect 10 - 25 minutes of wait time.
NO... They DON'T do phone orders and this isn't a place to sit and eat, because there are no chairs, seats nor tables inside. So, it's a come in to order and TAKE OUT ONLY!
YES... Honestly, majority of the staff don't have that "Hello" or friendly customer service type of attitude maybe cause they been getting orders so long or tired, but there are 2 ladies that I can't remember there names that has nice attitudes.
1pm - 6pm are their busiest times. After 7pm they may not have certain selections left cause it's sold out.
Also, one thing that bothers me. If you're a frequent customer of theirs you should recently notice the prices has went up, but greens and yams for example is in smaller containers now... when they use to give nice portions in the...
Read more9/23/22.. NOW I'M MAD! I JUST PULLED A FLY OUT OF THE MIDDLE OF MY ROAST!!! BETWEEN SATURDAY AND SUNDAY WE SPENT $ 160 dollars JUST TO GET BAD SERVICE AND FLYS!! IM SO PUT OUT MAD AND DISSATISFIED AND DISAPPOINTED !!! I DRIVE A HOUR JUST TO GO TO YIUR PLACE TOO!!!! 😡🤬😡🤬😡😡 I9/22 ... Saturday staff...nope!.. one worker had the same gloves on after digging in her jacket/ sweater pocket on more than one occasion...more than one customer asked the cashier what was wrong because he wasn't being too pleasant. Was a little short with people and as they said " what's wrong with you? You ok? You normally don't act like this"..And the lady kept putting her hands in her pockets ,wiping her hands in her jacket ..she was very unprofessional while making orders..spilling food all down customers containers and not cleaning them up. Throwing food in the containers like she was in a prison cafeteria..I purposely made sure I didn't get her because she clearly doesn't...smh...let me stop because I'm not trying to insult her . But Saturday was very disappointing. Sunday we went bk. Cashier had a wonderful attitude. Almost an entire different staff. 👍🏾..We didn't get any greens because they didn't have any ready , was not happy about that. But I was happy the staff was better than Saturday because if I would have come back Sunday and seen the same....smh...Would of been my last visit . Your staff need to be more sanitary.. basically the dark skinned young lady that had in black jacket ..

Read moreVery professional service but they need older more experience cooks that cook with love and not with the anger I witnessed. I apend on average 50 to 70+ dollars everytime I go which is at least twice a week. My last trip there the mac & chz was the worst I've ever had; it was very dry and not creamy. They also should be ready to serve the entire menu and not run out of popular foods that the community buys most. I didn't get my meatloaf, they ran out. No smothered pork chops. This happens quite often at this restaurant. See my video I hope I can post, it shows how they handle a small crowd and still was already out of certain foods; but overall they should learn what SOUL FOOD IS AND SOUL FOOD IS COOKED WITH A LOT OF LOVE AND NOT ATTITUDE AND ANGER AND TO SEASON THE FOOD CORRECTLY. THIS IS SOUL FOOD NOT SOME BLAND HEALTH FOOD YOU CAN JUST SERVE AND TRY TO PASS OFF AS TRUE SOUL FOOD. This place is in serious need of OLDER WORKERS WHO CARE ENOUGH TO TEACH THE YOUNG ONES TO COOK and show them what soul food is. So Motor City Soul Food needs a very serious make over in staff supervision and soul food preparation, but until that happens they get this self made food critics vote of one star until and they change up and care about how and what they're serving.
