I’m giving this restaurant 2 stars for a few reasons. 1st: Upon entering the establishment I was greeted, but in a way where I felt like the lady behind the thickest Bullet proof glass you will ever see was very annoyed I came in the first place...she couldn’t hear me as I was giving my order and I had to yell to get the order in.
2nd: I asked for red beans and rice which was priced on the menu at $14.50 (crazy)...she asked if I wanted chicken in it and I said of course...the price with a large lemonade ( really was koolaid with not a single drip of lemon anything but tons of sugar) ended up being a whopping $24.00..but hey caveat emptor (buyer beware)..but a customer at a so called family restaurant shouldn’t have to worry if they are getting hustled or not when just trying to order some red beans and rice...
3rd: the food...lord have mercy the food...well it wasn’t completely nasty which is why they get an extra star. However, the food is definitely not authentic creole...in fact it might be the worst creole food I have ever tasted (my girlfriend is creole so I have had my share of great and terrible creole)...the so called sausage they put in the food taste like hot dogs not andouille...the chicken taste like freezer and the dish was made in a very assembly line fashion with the bare minimum of ingredients and zero garnish...the complete opposite of creole food made with love is supposed to be...I asked for hot sauce but they didn’t give me any...and for the price I would have expected the best creole I have ever had...fishbones is cheaper and is more creole than this place.
In conclusion I feel this restaurant is preying on the community with a product that doesn’t justify or live up to the high prices and claim of being authentic...
Read moreI only get to this side of town on rare occasions unless I really want some good gumbo or red beans and rice... which is awesome and has no equal that I have tried.
HOWEVER... the SERVICE and TIDINESS of the waiting area leaves a LOT to be desired. Today's experience was what I thought would be a quick stop for some fabulous red beans and rice but I was disappointed by first the wait (which was over 25 minutes) and secondly the cleanliness of the waiting area that I noticed as I waited. The workers behind the THICK bulletproof glass (I hate to go to places with that type of security BUT did I mention the red beans and rice?) "assured" me and the 3 other customers that the wait would only be 4 or 5 minutes... one customer that came in a few minutes after me and was not blessed with my sense of patience REPEATEDLY questioned the cooks estimation of what 4 or 5 minutes really means. Note to self: complain as frequently as possible cause he received his food BEFORE me. Anyway... will I go back? Sadly, yes i will cause the red beans and rice is awesome... i may have mentioned that. I just hope on my next visit the customer service and cleanliness of the waiting area...
Read moreMama said don't shop hungry and she ain't never lied!!! 40 plus dollars down the drain. Is it a culture thing or what? Who in the world feeds or eats sugar greens? Greens are supposed to be savory. If I want dessert I would have bought it. This is why black people have diabetes and heart disease because yall don't know how to prepare or cook! Lesson well learned to take my money to the grocery store and prepare my own meals, that way I'm not complaining online about something I could have easily avoided. And wasting time because I could have been doing something else. Next...the catfish was wonderfully crunchy and very bland no seasons, couldn't eat it. Macaroni and cheese was interesting it look nasty but it taste alright, it was interesting. I wouldn't buy it again. The seafood gumbo...was ok cold I couldn't eat it that way. Couldn't tell you bout the cornbread either. So pretty much I drank the pink lemonade which was absolutely 💯. Was not overly sugary or too tart it was wonderful. It's time for a vernors my stomach feels weird and i feel nauseous right now. Lessons are met to be learn and today was that day I...
