DO NOT STAY HERE IF YOU EXPECT ANYTHING THEY ADVERTISED. I had a very different experience then the one marketed to me. I booked this hotel room last week for my partner’s birthday thinking it was perfect based on the advertising, but upon arrival there were a lot of things I wasn’t aware of or accurately informed about. The front desk was nice and welcoming but One my check in time was told to be at 4pm but I found out that arrival is 3pm when I got there. Then I had to agree to a 150$ hold which is excessive for a already extremely expensive room and wasn’t told to me before hand as well as paying for parking 10$ a day which I was told would be waived for my partners birthday which I thought was nice. I was confused when I was told my room was “140” because we were supposed to have a “balcony” when it’s literally just a seating space by our room not a balcony but either way I was still going with it. I asked immediately about the fire place so we can hang outside for my partners birthday since it was 60 degrees out and celebrate, I was told that the staff would light it around 6/7 pm est. We get in the room and I’m having to clean off surfaces because they aren’t clean, there’s no smart tv to connect any of our media or apps and the Wi-Fi isn’t secure it’s just free wifi with no passcode. There’s zero amenities no coffee maker, no water or snacks NO NOTHING. We call for extra towels for the hot tub and a extra comforter. 3 hours later I got hungry still no towels or comforter so I tried to call room service multiple times no one answered so we went to get food outside and when we came back I go to the front desk to ask for the towels comforter and for someone to light the fire place like promised I was told that he would ask the manager to light it and he showed me the towels to grab myself and told me someone will bring the comforter we asked for. we drove to the parking lot with my towels in hand and had to walk around since our key card doesn’t open the yard door. We waited all night no1 litt the fire pit so we couldn’t really enjoy outside or celebrate his birthday the way we planned to. Then the morning comes and I’m trying to have breakfast in bed like advertised even in my room guide and no answer I call the front desk to find out they don’t have a restaurant and haven’t done room service “since Covid” yet not one person or staff is wearing a mask so how is that? Also why advertise that if we have to leave our rooms and get our own breakfast towels and clean our room before we even get to enjoy it. Mind you it’s just restaurants and fast food in the area once you drive 5 min out. I was hoping to have a very specific experience based on how this hotel was advertised and what I paid but I got something extremely different. Hell we even had maggots/ spiders in our room 🫤as well as marks of dirt all around the room on the bed cover, chipped and marked up furniture that was there in that tiny room. I don’t think that room was cleaned in weeks I was coughing and sneezing like crazy as well as feeling itchy. There’s aspects I loved about this hotel but the lack of service and any of the things I’m promised. I’m extremely upset to say the least. I still days later don’t have my deposits back and I wanted to reach out first to give an opportunity to make this right because everyone deserves a second chance but no one got back to me and compared to the niceties I experienced at other hotels in the Detroit area for lower prices THIS IS A MASSIVE EXPENSIVE...
Read moreUpdate May 2018: Had to come to the region for 5 days so booked a longer stay at the Trumbull and Porter. Came away even more impressed than before. The biggest thing is the staff (I know, talked about this before). Somehow, everyone seems to be in a good mood. Wasn't sure that was possible but from the people cleaning the common areas, working the coffee bar/shop & restaurant to the front desk, just great to talk to. Returning from downtown (less than 10 minute commute during rush hour) I noticed I had a tire issue. The desk sent me to a Firestone maybe 1/2 mile away and when I returned, asked to make sure everything was good. Not a big deal, but nice touch when you're on the road for days.
Also, thrilled that the hotel has added a gym, don't think it was there my last quick stay. It's spacious (something a lot of hotels don't think about) with plenty of room for stretching and floor work, as well as different cardio options and two benches with a dumbbell rack.
I love this place more each time I stay. Can't recommend it enough.
If you travel for work many hotels tend to blend together. That's certainly not the case with the Trumbull and Porter. This place is unique and fun. OK, to be fair I was only there a day but loved what I experienced. From the minute I walked in, the place had a different feel. I guess you'd describe it as Industrial Chic. The region feels like it's being redone by artists (go down the street and you'll see more independent restaurants and bars). The lobby area kind of sets the tone. Modern, clean but not stuffy. The coffe bar/shop was fully stocked and coffee was priced fair (not jacked up like most hotels). Didn't have time to check out the restaurant, but there were plenty of people eating when I left for work in the evening and many people enjoying the bar when I came back that night. As crowded as the hotel was (think there were some wedding parties this weekend), my room was quiet. The room itself was like the rest of the hotel. Modern, clean and a great use of space. Mini fridge, iron & ironing board were all hidden to save space. The desk had a large work area and there was no shortage of outlets. The bed (king in my room) was very comfortable with plenty of pillows. Great night's sleep. The floor is concrete with some rugs. It may seem odd but actually makes sense. Probably cleaner than carpets and the room even comes with slippers (adorable, right?). Bathroom I split into the vanity area and toilet/showere area. I was traveling alone but still appreciate it. There was no shower door and the divider runs about 3/4 of the way down the tub. I've actually seen more hotel showers designed this way, not sure why but water doesn't get everywhere like you might think. I wish I had time to hang out in the courtyard more. Really cool set up-don't know if it was for a wedding or but great area on a nice day. I sat in the sun going over notes before heading to work. Everyone on the staff was helpful, easy to deal with and had a sense of humor (underrated after spending a ton of time in the car). The Trumbull and Porter is the most unique hotel I've been to in years. I'll...
Read moreTo be honest, I really wanted to like this place. However i was thoroughly disappointed. I purchased my stay on a second party website. We typically like to stay in a 4-star hotel and the website said it was a 3.5 so I figured the half-point might not make that much of a difference . However once I purchased the stay it revealed that it was Trumbull and Porter which is actually a 3-star Hotel . Price was much cheaper but the website wouldn't tell me the name of the hotel I would be staying in until after I purchased it. I guess that's what I get LOL. Everything that I read that was negative on the reviews was true. It has a very modern Vibe but it lacks the warmth that makes you feel at home. It felt more like a college dorm or sad to say my husband called it a prison cell. The floors are cement which killed our legs. The lights on the ceiling were literally bear bulbs with no cover on them. The shower has no closing door on it, it's just open. I remember someone mentioned in their review that their room was near a laundry room or something that sounded very loud . I figured maybe it was just her room and was hoping that we wouldn't end up with a room like that. But of course we got the same kind of a room . There was some loud swishing sound that we heard all day . Also in the 3 days that we stayed there no one from housekeeping ever came to give us new towels or change our linens. The parking is absolutely terrible. There's a $10 charge to park per night which is gated. However there is only one entrance door behind the gate. So if you aren't one of the fortunate ones to get a spot near the entrance door you'll have to walk all the way around the building every time you want to go in and out. Also There are many sewers surrounding the hotel which made for a very unpleasant smell in the hallways it wasn't a very strong smell but we definitely noticed it. I know this is a three heart star hotel and we shouldn't expect five star service but we told the lady at the front desk that it was our anniversary and she said she would check on some champagne for us and we never heard anything about it. Also when I asked for toothpaste or medicine they said that there was no one to send it up to our room we had to walk all the way down to the front desk to get it ourselves. And the bed that we slept in could not have been a standard queen, felt more like a full. The only positives was the delicious room service breakfast and the cable TV. All in all I would say this is definitely not a place for a romantic stay or a family. This may be okay for you if...
