Really good blend of Afro Caribbean plates that come prepared as a combo or create your own entrees. I decided on the quickbite of the classic village combo that came with jerk chicken, jollof rice, plantains. Wow is all I can say! I got really good portions for a little over $13, enough for me to save for later. The spicy flavors of the jerk and rice paired perfectly with the fried plantains to tone down the spice. Each bite gives you bold flavor and freshness. The jerk chicken was really tender. All meat is Halal and they have Vegan and Gluten Free options as well. I had my food with one of their long beach lemonade to-go cocktails, it was sweet but with a nice kick that left me satisfied. Great customer service that was willing to help you decide what to order in case you can't decide what to have. The dine in style was fast casual dining which I'm not much of a fan of but it does perfect for a quick bite during lunch hours in a rush. They also have outside dining seating during the warmer months and currently still in October that is great for nice days to sit for lunch on busy Woodward Ave. Overall I'd definitely recommend Yum Village if you're looking for traditional Afro-Caribbean meals with new pairings and recipes that all come together perfectly. I did mark the food down to 4 because it seems to matter when you come on the quality of the food. Sometimes the food is not always as fresh or hot when I've come later in the day.

The healthiest meal I've had out in months. The staff are very friendly, welcoming and helpful. The only complaint I could come up with is a lack of old-style, physical menus. I find them easier to browse than the tablet-based version. The ordering system is on said tablet, broken down into various categories but not particularly logical or easily discernable. So, I started at the first and dug through all until I found what I wanted. Then it was simple & straightforward. Even a spot to add notes about spice level or leaving out certain things. Prices are shown, usually a range, that covers the different size portions. A note: all electronic payments, no cash. And everything is bagged up to go even if you are eating in. Odd, but at least the bag is paper & thus recyclable. The instrumental music was a nice accompaniment to the meal but one of the speakers seemed to be blown, it had trouble with the low notes. I ordered the curry chicken, 12 oz portion, which was $16 + tax. Flavorful, tender, lots of colorful and tasty vegetables. I wish I had requested spicier but I'll know next time. And I would've loved some rice or bread to soak up all that delicious liquid so I didn't have to finish it like a bowl if soup without a spoon. 😁 I honestly would love to eat here nearly every week were it closer and bit less expensive. That being said, I suspect I've found my first "go to" restaurant in downtown Detroit.

Cheese fufu is fried mushy and swimming in grease. Ogbono tastes super salty vomit taste and a small amount of ground meat. I arrived for pick up and waited 10 minutes while the only customer decided what to order instead of them stepping aside. When she was done, I stepped up, the cashier/owner(?) did not greet me. I said hello and told her my name for pick up. She yelled "no they already picked that up!" And waved her hand at me to move away from the register. I again politely repeated my name and said I ordered for myself online. She again raised her voice and yelled " no door dash already picked it up!" As she checked the one order on the take out shelf. Then she walked back in the kitchen and I believe saw my name on her tablet. She then started yelling "look lady, I'm swamped right now and I didn't notify you that your order is ready! Your order is going to be 10 more minutes wait over there! (Empty restaurant) I said ok, she went back in the kitchen, scooped food into the containers and brought the bag out giving me a disgusted look. I said thanks, and she said nothing. This was a $20 meal with 15% tip payed online before pickup.

It was my first time visiting this business. I had heard a lot of good things about the food and I wanted to try it, but it was a bit of a disaster. The Hibiscus tea drinks and Akata balls with the mango sauce were good. Unfortunately, the spicy beans were another story. I ate half of it and decided to take the rest of the home. Within 15 minutes on my way home, I experienced bubble guts. I had to rush to another business to use their restroom and stayed there for 20 minutes. My stomach still was uncomfortably churning, so I had to take a Lyft ride to go home and pray that I didn't have an accident. That incident made me so relieved to get home. My family and friends, after hearing about my symptoms, which lasted until the next day, informed me that I was dealing with a possible food poisoning. I have always had a strong stomach, but that incident was something that I had not experienced in many years, and I never had it from restaurant food before this particular incident. I reached out to the business, but I did not hear back, and since that was the case, I won't be back!

This place is one of the only west African restaurants in the area- and the food is pretty good for what it’s worth. I got a jerk chicken platter with sweet plantains and jollof. The jerk chicken was good, though the sauce was a little sweeter than what I’m used to. The jollof didn’t taste traditional, it was more like seasoned rice but it went well with the chicken. I wasn’t a fan of the sweet plantains- I know it’s in the name but they were wayy too sweet. I also was not sure why there were banana peppers on the top of the meal- felt like a random add. Bumping a star because of service- I ordered and after 40 minutes of waiting went back up and I was told they never put my order in- even though I paid. I had to go up two times before they started preparing my order, and it seemed like I was inconveniencing them rather than the other way around. All in all I’m West African and have tasted some really good jollof so I think my standards are a bit higher. But if you want to try a Black owned restaurant and you don’t have a history with the food, then I’d recommend.
