I walked in at 5:15pm to a half full establishment. There were 3 front of house workers (2 servers/bartenders and 1 host). After waiting a few minutes to be seated, without a single person greeting me or anyone acknowledging my presence (and rather the staff avoiding making eye contact), I finally caught the eye of the hostess and told them I wanted to dine in. She nervously looked around unsure whether to seat me so I asked, “do you have any room for me?”, as I realized all but 3 of the dinning tables were empty. The hostess replied, I think I could seat you at a 2-top and take care of you. (Now, I get it, I’ve worked and managed restaurants before in NYC. They are short staffed… the hostess seems new… I’m a single diner and not a large party that is going to spend a few hundred dollars - regardless of the situation, you never want someone to feel UNWELCOME). After quickly deciding what I wanted to order, I looked around to see if anyone was going to acknowledge my presence- once again, both servers would pass by, catch a quick glimpse and quickly look away. Finally, I decided to say hello to the next person who walked by and I got a “hello” back this time! I continued to watch her as she asked her fellow server/bartender if she would be willing to take my table to which the other server responded, “WHY?!” (Loud enough for the entire restaurant to hear). After getting an explanation, this server/bartender rolled her eyes and walked over to me. I said, “oh, don’t worry! I won’t take up too much of your time”. I gave her my order and told her she could drop off the check as soon as the food came. It’s now 6pm. I just paid and finished writing this review. The food was excellent! But I’ve spend 45min upset about how server made me feel and how much guidance and training this staff actually needs. And yet, I still left a tip! But this situation is unacceptable and I hope this alerts the management about the experience people are having at their...
Read moreI was searching for a restaurant or something somewhere near the Fisher Theater to kill a little time, and I walked a little and found this place. I was a little off put by the fact that my first interaction basically was "we only have 4 tops, so can you sit at the bar?" I mentioned I feel odd sitting at a bar and not ordering alcohol as I typically only drink water. I sat at the bar, and well, my server Ray was fantastic. I asked if they had hot chocolate and was told that they can make it and not only did they make it she made sure to put it in a hot cup with a lid so I could refill and it would stay hot. I then asked about some food options, and tonight, they had a few specials. One was a pizza, and one was this delicious gnocchi dish I ordered. I was excited to hear the word Gnocci as I love it. So I ordered it with the bread. I was highly impressed with this dish. My only small note would be I wish the Gnocci had remained crispy and not soft just the way I prefer it, but it was still delicious and hot and fresh. I am more than full and didn't finish the bread, thank god!! All the food looked great, and I observed nothing but great customer service. I will tell you it's on the more expensive side as my Gnocci and Bread were $18 by them selves. The portion appeared small for that price, but as I write this, I am stuffed. I would definitely recommend this place for a visit, especially if you are downtown before a show. If this review helped you at all, please mark as helpful and follow me for more reviews...
Read moreHad such a grim birthday experience here. Placed our order and waited patiently for our pizza. A table of three came in about 15 minutes later and were seated next to us. We'd been waiting a while but noticed this table got their food rather quickly. The girls next to us were enjoying their pizza when they accidentally knocked it off its stand and it fell on the floor! We were so sad for them.
Until a staff member came over and told us that was actually our pizza that was on the ground -- they'd accidentally handed it to the other table because they looked similar. We then watched the table next to us eat our birthday meal (in addition to the pizza they'd actually ordered, which was conveniently on it's way out of the oven), pack up their (our) leftovers and pay their bill, all before we'd even gotten our meal. We waited another 30 minutes or so for our food to come out.
Staff did not offer to comp anything and our server was inattentive and incredibly aloof about the whole thing -- she kept making jokes about being drunk and was like trying to make a stand-up set out of this situation. It was very strange.
At dinner we joked about what a train wreck the whole ordeal was, and how the only thing that would make it worse would be one of us got a parking ticket while re-waiting for our food. When I got back to my car I had one...
