Last night, my husband & I made our way to Detroit's Milwaukee Junction neighborhood to check out this cute, new cocktail bar. We knew from the fact it was a Detroit Optimist Society venture that it was going to be special.
Stepping inside, we were not disappointed. It has a really cool throwback vibe that is classy and intimate. From the gorgeous bar back to the color scheme and fun jukebox, the decor was perfect. At first we sat at a table, but moved to the bar when seats opened up. There is no better place to sit if you want to watch the drinks being made and share interesting conversation with friendly bartenders.
We had three drinks: The Hiatus Cowboy (Espolon Resposado, mole syrup, Angosturo bitters & grapefruit) Similar to an old-fashioned, this was delicious. The tequila was perfectly subtle.
Cut the Chase (milk-washed Evan Williams bourbon, Ameretto Fratelli d'italia, lemon juice, ginger syrup & Peychauds bitters). This was my favorite. It reminded me of an elevated whiskey sour.
Encantorito (Espolon Blanco, Los Vecinos mexcal, grapefruit juice, lime juice & chamay syrup) This was the only one I didn't care for - It was very smoky in flavor. I did love the chamay syrup they used, however, so I may see if they can downplay the...
Read moreThis is now one of my favorite cocktail bars. The decor is so pretty and hip, the music was vibey, and the bartender was absolutely fantastic. I'd go back just for him! They have the most interesting cocktail menu and a few snacks; I'd try anything they're mixing up. They have a great happy hour with $9 drinks, and I got the dirty martini which was the best martini I've had since my wasp east coast family made me theirs, and that's saying something. So clean and smooth; the most perfect martini anywhere. I also had one of their specialty cocktails - the peace frog - and it was divine. I look forward to having that one again before the menu changes. I also tried my friend's whiskey drinks, and they were both perfect. So balanced with lovely flavor and nothing was too sweet at all. Just right. They also have a jukebox, and who doesn't love that? I'd love to see what it's like a little later into the night or on a weekend; it was very chill for happy hour. Love it here....
Read moreWe went there last night 7/24/24 after going there probably once a week during the whole Detroit Lions NFL season. Juan was always our bartender. We spent an average of $70 (with tip) every time we went. We haven’t been back since February and there was a new bartender last night. He is terrible at service. . He was very slow at getting to the patrons and slower at making drinks. There was 3 sets of two people sitting at the bar at 8:10pm before we walked in. we Two of his friends walked in after we had sat there for 10 minutes without him, asking us what we wanted to drink . Just as they were walking in, he asked us what we wanted to drink. We said a CantaRita and a Peace frog. He then followed his friends down to the end of the bar and waited on them. We waited until 8:33 (20 minutes) without a drink . He then dropped a drink he made and had to remake it. We left.. very...
