Disney outfit did Disney with the opening night show of Beauty and the Beast. As soon as you walk in and see the beautiful screen of the silhouette of Belle and the Beast with the dress with beautiful roses at the bottom, you can tell that this theatrical production would be exceptional. It was, in fact, a masterpiece, the brilliance of the cast members, every person, no matter what part they played, where they danced, saying, acting, whatever they did, including the sound, lighting, and staging. The Orchestra makes us one of the most masterful productions at. Did he ever put on a stage performance? In my opinion, this is not for children under five years of age because of some of the scary scenes in there, especially with wolves, and even though it’s all pretend, it might scare some little kids at times. It is loud. Still, I, being in a third row from the top of the balcony, looking way down with my opera glasses, it was so much fun, even though with my deteriorating vision, I was still able to enjoy it and have the wide range of emotions from happiness to sadness with the superb acting of every character on that stage. And of course, I was partial to the little boy who played Chip. He is precious and exemplifies the hardware content talent of all the professionals in this production. It’s only here for a few weeks. I think it’s here until October 18 and goes to the Wharton Center in Lansing, but this performance is so good. I was glad I was high in the balcony because I could see everything, and the angle at the height was no problem. The audience was terrific, but the evasions. Seeing the audience burst out with extreme joy and happiness, praising this company that has obviously worked very hard and done justice to Walt Disney's wonderfulness was thrilling. And remembering Mr. Disney, I know he would’ve been very proud of this performance. The Fisher Theatre did an excellent job; the ushers were so caring and wonderful. Even the available Disney souvenirs were priceless and well worth the investment. Get to the show if you can because it’s worth the time. I genuinely believe this performance deserves a Tony Award for its excellence in theater. It is well done, and I have seen Broadway shows, so this is by far up there. It deserves an award, especially with this group of actors and crew behind the scenes, who are completely outstanding. It was perfect for the venue at the Fisher Theatre; it had a beautiful stage and everything.
I was the only usher during Andy's performance years ago, maybe decades ago, to be booed at the theater before the beginning of the Met Neighbor performance. I was asked to tell the children to return to the seeds from talking to the Orchestra before Annie's performance began. The soonest decided to hold me in start bullying me because he was upset because that was the only thing he could enjoy with the kids, he couldn’t see the actors' stage on only the two rows of the balcony where I actually sat for this particular performance by Disney. Still, back then, he was complaining he started boiling, and then the Woodmans booed, and then pretty through the first three rows cleared nearest to them booed thinking I did something bad to the kids. I’m pretty soon. The whole theater was bullying. And I was crawling to the theater exit and was totally embarrassed, but that’s my...
Read moreRead morePreface: If I could rate this for the building and the architecture of the theatre alone I would give it 5 stars. Stunning Detroit history here. The play we saw was "Hairspray" and it sure was a lot of fun! The theater company seemed full of energy, even for a Tuesday evening. I haven't seen a ton of plays/theater/broadway but I've seen quite a few. I am always impressed with the lung power of its performers. One woman in this show really iced the cake and stood out from the rest. I will be excited to see more like it on the Fischer Theatre stage in the future. I am giving the Fischer Theater 3 stars because the staff were not the greatest on this particular night at least. FYI This is a proof of vaccine, mask mandatory event space. I respect that. Completely. We hadn't known masks were "mandatory" at first though... I'm sure it said somewhere on the booking site but I didn't buy the tix - my date had and was forced into buying 3 tickets for the 2 of us. Respectively so, just saying. Anyways we somehow missed the memo. With our distance in seats from other patrons we had taken down our masks at some point during the first part of the show. Well dude came by with a "mask up" sign so we quickly put our masks back on and kept them on for the remainder of the show. No problem. What I did have a problem with was that a couple of the ushers (maybe the dude too?! I don't know) took a seat directly behind us. The theater had LOTS of open seating was probably less than 1/2 full (and if others had to buy 1 1/2 tickets too the show hopefully still did okay.) Anyways they COUGHED the whole time. It was gross and felt like a purposeful but petty attack because we made an intial mistake. I was uncomfortable the whole time and rather annoyed of how incredibly inpolite and rude that was. Luckily they weren't behind us the whole time and nothing came of it. Still it's a rouph covid world out there for everyone, petty bits of sickly aggression are really an unnecessary power trip to have on people who weren't resisting in any way. Shame on me for pulling my mask down for a few moments but SHAME on that usher for his incredulous couphing action. It only took the sign to correct our poor choice. His behavior...
I have been enjoying theater shows for over 40 years in the city of Detroit, especially the Broadway Series among the various venues. This year, on April 28, 2024, my daughter and I attended the Mamma Mia! musical at the Fisher Theater. In the past and recently, this parking garage has always been free for their shows. In addition, during the weekdays, the garage allowed Henry Ford Hospital employees free parking space.
As we entered the parking garage, I noticed QR codes for parking on the walls and I assumed it was for non-theater patrons. There were no parking attendants at the entry or exit gates. To my unexpected surprise, I received a letter from Metropolis on 5/20/2024 to notify me that my car was parked at a Metropolis managed parking facility and left without paying the amount due $76.25. This letter included photos of my car as it entered and exited.
Furthermore, after nearly one month later, payment is due upon receipt of this notice. At first I thought it was some scam. I researched it and found a PDF letter of instructions to obtain a validation and free parking for Broadway in Detroit shows.
The main problem with this is that the actual theater did not announce that a third party was managing the fees upon purchase of the tickets. It appears that they wrote a post on their Broadway in Detroit Facebook page on 04/25/2024 reminding patrons to now pre-register their vehicle before arriving to the Fisher Theater parking garage. Secondly, many patrons are senior citizens and may not be frequently checking social media for updated instructions for parking validation, especially with the lack of a readily accessible customer service phone number to discuss the problem and solutions. There is a Metropolis website to enter your email, phone number, and ticket number but once again, this was not formally announced or made aware at the time of purchasing these tickets nor at the parking garage itself. It appears as a predatory practice of third party vendors. Theater patrons are rewarded by being exploited by the greedy. There is no theater audience unless the elderly...
