I'd give them 2 stars, not so much for the food as that part was pretty decent, but the overall experience wasn't the best due to the wait for every single process of the dining experience + wrong order.
I'm not sure if it's because the owner didn't realize how popular the place would be and didn't assign enough workers or what but the place was a full house (with a bunch of people waiting as well). There was no waiting list so we all just sat around and I'm wondering how the world they would remember who came first with so many of us waiting. I saw that there was also only one waiter serving and handling the entire cafe space with another one at the bar making all the drinks and I believe only one cook as well.
The wait for seats was about little over 10 minutes (we were lucky that we were only a table of 2 so it didn't take too long), then we were sat and getting a waiter to take our order also took awhile (but I totally get it when you're the only server). I ordered their vegetarian omelette and the boyfriend ordered their Gran Burrito with a horchata for him and a water for me. The drinks took 15 minutes to come out and our food was another 25ish minutes. It felt like an eternity, we literally spent an hour at the restaurant just "waiting" for stuff. They also got my boyfriend's order wrong, but he was afraid to let them know because he didn't want to wait another 30 minutes for his food to come out again. He ended up with a plate of fillings, not even sure what dish it was. LOL. It was a little too salty too. The omelette was tasty though, I liked that they julienne the zucchini inside rather than serve it in big cuts.
I'm almost sure everything took so long because there just wasn't enough staff to handle the crowd and food orders. I give the three that were there hella kudos for handling the rush, they were hustlin' the best they could albeit everything was insanely slow, but they were friendly and never had attitude with the amount of people there and so I'd give them another star for having great workers. There were even waiting customers that ended up leaving and going to other restaurants in the plaza because of the wait. In all honesty, it felt like the longest breakfast experience I've ever had. I hope the owner schedules more workers for weekends as I'd love to come back and update the review with a...
Read moreLooking for a new place close to my sister's new home and found S&J Gran Cafe. A whole in the wall kind of a place but you know most of the time they are the best. This is the case with this restaurant. They have both inside and outside sitting and when we showed up the place was busy but by the time we left, there was a line of people waiting!! The staff was very friendly worked their tails off including our servers (3). They know their menu and are quick on praising their food. They have an extent menu of drinks and coffees and if it OJ that you want, it is freshly squeezed. My husband had an Omelette that came with potatoes and toast. He actually ate some of the potatoes and thought they were very good and this man does not eat potatoes! My sister and I had the Chapin breakfast...Any Chapines out there, you will LOVE this breakfast. It comes with eggs, chorizo, black beans queso fresco and platanos OMG! They were DELISH! I don't think that they had to clean our plates when we were finished😉 because there was nothing left. The price was just right, for our meals including a side of freshly made tortillas and coffee we paid $$. We are planning on going back and bringing the rest of the tribe with...
Read moreUpdate: I went today, and the dishes we ordered were pretty good. Chilaquiles tasted so good. The salsa with the egg and chips was additive. Huevos con Chorizo was good as the last time when I was here. The chorizo wasn't too spicy and salty. It tasted good even with the corn tortilla. French toast was just ok. Mexican Latte had a strong flavor of cinnamon. I liked it, but I would go with half of the sweetness if possible. Hot Zapata Latte Cacahuate was something new to me. It tasted like latte with peanut butter. It's really smooth. I will suggest to order their Mexican breakfast instead the American breakfast. This new location is roomy and open. It's great for small group gathering. Very cozy and comfy.
It was an average breakfast. However, because Diamond Bar doesn't have many choices on breakfast, I will still...
