Maria's Pizza — Restaurant in Dixon Township

Use to order alot from this place and would rate it a 4-5. This night was horrible. ( the service not the food)🙁. Ordered an extra large pizza for 3 of us. Picked it up( they were 20 minutes late ) but it was busy & we weren't worried about that. We got home & started to eat the pizza and after a couple of slices each my sister noticed what looked like blood splatters & or smears on the inside of the pizza box on one side. It certainly looked like blood. We immediately stopped eating and my sister called the pizzeria to voice our concerns. Incredulously the owner accuses us of trying to get a free pizza due to the complaint . He claimed that it was ink from the printing on the outside of the box leaking through to the inside & that he had other complaints similar before. My sister simply asked how late they were open & could we return & have him show us a similar box at his restaurant to alay our concern. He proceeded to tell us ( with profanity) that he not only didn't have time for this but refused! Again he accused us of trying to get a free pizza ( which we never asked for). A simple show of a similar box w/ the same " ink" smears/splatters would have satisfied us as we asked him. His disrespectful & flippant attitude has lost him some customers for now & possibly the future. As a side note my sister who made the call & another sister have a combined almost 40 years in the pizzeria business as waitresses. They've both cut/ sraped their fingers on the jagged rough edge of pizza boxes when assembling them. They've had to throw out those boxes. And start over. The corrugated edges of the box is quite rough & capable of causing such injuries. Very disappointed in the owner & his disrespectful refusal to take care of...

First timer. Chose Maria's from the reviews. They said the shop made their own dough. Always a good sign.

The dough was good. Yeasty. Nice chew. Made from a 50 lb bag of 00 in a giant Hobart. It was the sauce that sealed the deal. Umami. Perfect balance of sweet and acid. Garlic, basil onion. It's an excellent sauce...

Can't say much for ambiance. It's a hole in the wall. But that's not why you come. They make a good pie....

Hours say they close at 11 on Saturdays but they have been closing early. No signs on doors, no changes to answering machine telling the hours. 2nd Saturday in a row i tried to get food at around 10pm and nobody would answer the phone so we walked up and the establishment was closed.
