Amealco Mexican Kitchen — Restaurant in Doraville

Wow! I celebrated my birthday at Amealco restaurant on a Wednesday, and it was an absolutely superb experience! I highly recommend paying them a visit. The servers were incredibly friendly and made me feel truly special. The food surpassed all expectations with its exceptional deliciousness. I have three must-try dishes to share: the Esquire marrow, accompanied by the most delightful corn soup I've ever tasted—it had this incredible roasted flavor that was simply mouthwatering! I wish I could take a vat of that soup home! Also, the buneolos for dessert were a true delight. And let's not forget the Paloma drink, which was so good. Normally, I'm skeptical of social media recommendations, but this one did not disappoint.

I loved Amealco so much that I immediately told my friend about it on the night of my birthday, and we ended up going back on Saturday. It's an authentic Mexican dining experience that goes far beyond the commercialized options out there. The drinks were absolutely delicious too—I particularly enjoyed the guava punch and Paloma. They certainly don't skimp on the portions.

The place is also beautifully decorated. I felt like I was on vacation at a resort!

Spacious and nice decor in the dining room. Unfortunately, we will not be returning. The restaurant has a weird odor, you will smell it when you just walked in, and even stronger when you walk toward the back/restroom area. The service was on the slow end, especially when we were finishing our meal, trying to get our waiter to come get us the bill, had to wait over 10 minutes just to get her attention, and bill/payment processing took another 5-10 minutes. It wasn't a very busy time at the restaurant, only like 5-6 tables, so it was a bit of shocked why things took so long.

The food was just okay. The taco meat was pretty dry, I don't feel they worth $4-$4.5 each, they are probably more $2-$3 max value. The $16 shrimp quesadilla is also a bit pricey, wish they give more rice or other side items (sour creme, veggie, salsa, etc).

There is also a ~4% "CC Fee", which was not explained to us about what is the charge for. And I assume it might be credit card fee, but when bill came, they would not know if we are paying cash or credit card, so if this is credit card usage fee, pre-added this to the bill isn't the right way to do.

All in all, we might not return in the future. Hope improvements...

Good food, service. Upscale feel.

The restaurant is roomy and nicely decorated. It has Latino soft rock/pop playing. It is tastefully decorated in cream and taupe. You could safely go here before the third date. There's a full bar.

The server didn't speak much English. When there are more than a few tables, the food is slower. The server is very attentive and, in fact, ran out to give me the credit card that I left on the table.

It's worth noting that everything has been on blue corn meal. As well, the sauces are delicious but quite spicy.

On one visit, I had gorditas. I was hoping for those fluffy white corn gorditas. These were a heavier blue corn. Ordered barbacoa, al pastor and ground beef. Surprisingly, the ground beef stood out with a really great flavor.
