I have been a regular at this place for years & have had a combination of great & hit or miss experiences with the food (i.e. burnt bread). Because I loved this place, I didn't complain too much about it because they have always made up for it in service... that is until tonight. I got new waitress who skimped out on going over the daily specials, which is their thing, but I was okay with it. I was brought bread without enough butter & she was nowhere to be found to ask for more, so I became okay with that because at least the bread was served hot & not burnt this time. When she brought my food, she passed it across the table (not a booth) in front of me instead of from behind, which resulted in her knocking over my cup & sending cold water directly into my stomach & lap & almost drenching my cellphone (my husband grabbed it quickly before it was damaged). She quickly apologized & I totally understand it's an accident, but I am now drenched, cold, & swimming in water by my feet. She & another waitress come with towels & hand me a few and start filling the small towels with water from the table & one is under the table at my feet mopping the water up with the small towels. At this point, my food is sitting at the opposite end of the table getting cold, I am freezing (I am anaemic), & I'm waiting for someone to at least suggest we be moved so they could continue to clean the puddles of water surrounding the table instead of cleaning around me. I calmly asked for the manager, Collette, whom saw when I came in. I know most of the staff by name since I was a regular. When Collette comes to the table, I really don't need to explain what is happening, but she looks at me as if I should, so I obliged. I tell her water was spilled on me and I am freezing. She apologizes, but immediately becomes defensive and states it was an accident, offered dry cleaning services, & asked if I wanted the food I still had not received (it's still getting cold across the table) boxed as a to go order. She did not ask if I was okay or offer an immediate solution except for me take my food home. I asked if we could be moved so they could clean up the mess & I was granted the request. By now, I am not pleased with my experience at all because I felt the manager only saw the side of the waitress and could care less about the well being of a regular, paying customer. She sent the waitress who spilled the water to our new table to tell us we could get a free dessert on the house, but by then, I didn't even want my food. I asked for my food to be boxed and told the new waitress I was not pleased with my experience with Collette and just wanted to leave & would contact Tammy, one of the owners, the next day. About 5 minutes later, Collette reappears apologizing & states she did not know she offended me & proceeds to reiterate it all being an accident. I tell her I understood it was an accident, but that is not what upset me. I was upset because I brought the accident to her attention because I was inconvenienced by it all, was not offered an immediate solution, am a regular but was treated like I broke a law for saying something, she tried to send me home after the incident as if I was the problem, & was offered a free dessert for my troubles. I explained I have a degree in Restaurant Mgt & that I felt that the new waitress just needed a little more training so she doesn't pass food across the table in that manner in the future to avoid those types of disasters. My daughter is a waitress, so I was understanding & patient with the young lady because I would want that for my child. She apologizes sincerely & I am good. She told me Tammy was not there, but Gabe was there if I wanted to see him. I declined & wanted to speak with Tammy the following day, but Gabe comes to my table anyway. He jumps in reiterating it all being an accident, it being a tough industry, and told me (a regular patron) I overreacted (causing my husband to say he was worse than Collette). It saddens me to say I...
Read moreProm night was busy in Douglasville. An open spot right out front beckoned me into Gabe's. The first thing I noticed when I walked in was the music. It was as if they knew I was coming and queued all of my favorites. The hostess was able to seat us as soon as we walked in. Cozy little corner table. Best seat in the house, if you ask me, although I heard the upstairs was even better (I'm unable to navigate stairs, so I'm taking Bryan's word for it.). Bryan was our server, and he was on point. We went in hungry (we had tried several places already and been unable to get in.). Before he could make a recommendation, I started us with the fried green tomatoes. I love fried green tomatoes. I've always had them served with a remoulade. Not tonight. My disappointment faded quickly when I realized that there was no reason to dip these tomatoes. They were perfect just as they were. My son had the shrimp po'boy. I'm allergic to shellfish, so I did not try it, but he raved about it. He said that the spread was delicious, and in the perfect amount. Oftentimes, there is so much spread that the bread gets wet and mushy. Not at Gabe's. Not tonight. I had the CAB ribeye, medium well. When it comes to steak, Gabe is an artist (Who am I kidding? The entire meal was a Masterpiece!). It was so tender it melted in my mouth, and the taste was exquisite. It was well worth the $28. And to think Texas Roadhouse had been my first choice! I'm so lucky they had a 20 minute wait for a table. Nothing I could have gotten there could have compared to the steak I recieved. Neither of us was able to finish the generous portions we were served, but I wanted a taste of something sweet. We opted to split the strawberry cast iron cake with homemade blueberry ice cream. My son doesn't really care for cake, but Bryan assured us this wouldn't be overly sweet, and that the icecream alone was worth the cost of the dessert. Bryan was not wrong. We were able to contain ourselves and not fight over who got to lick the bowl. We managed to be civilized and leave it on the table. But barely. My dinner at Gabe's tonight was the best Ive had in two dog's years. Id highly recommend you check this place out. It's perfect for any occasion. Dress is casual. There were folks in prom wear, and folks who were dressed like they'd just finished working outside. The tables are arranged for intimacy, whether a first date or a mother/son "catch up chat." I just can't say enough good things about this place. Try it. I suspect you will not be...
Read moreWould give them 0 stars if I could after our last experience! I was a Gabe’s regular that besides a few blah experiences during lunch takeout LOVED them! Never had a bad dinner experience with service or food but our last experience was so bad I will NEVER return! I don’t think I’ve ever left a review but that’s how bad it was! Us asking not to be squished during two other tables during pandemic asking for an outside seat was clearly a problem for them. Wasn’t upset just preferred to be outside or off to the side. After being told we could sit outside manager said she was saving those tables for a party that they were expecting (that we never seen come) so manager apparently assumed we were going to leave which we didn’t want to do so asked could we have table off to side or wait for one so I guess decided we were trouble at that point. I don’t mind waiting forever if food is hot and had my food came out at least not cold probably would have never opened my mouth but server was outside smoking while we waited 45 mins for food (I know this because I was also outside smoking while waiting) a guest who I assumed was off clock employee was allowed back in kitchen area with no mask cutting up back and forth the whole time, two employees was fighting with each other they were all back there cussing the entire time where we could all hear. I assumed the manager couldn’t control but NOPE she didn’t care. When all $100 worth of food came out cold except for lyonnaise potatoes I told server she said sorry and walked off stopped manager to tell her she told me it shouldn’t be cold as it just came out by this point we weren’t waiting again had she offered anyways. I didn’t want a discount...maybe an acknowledgement would have been great so after paying called her to the side to inform her of complete bad experience all she had to say is “well firstly you couldn’t have seen our employee smoking as we don’t allow that” well lady she was with your Togo cup in hand which again wouldn’t had been an issue had we been delivered hot food, then told me the lady allowed in and out of kitchen with no mask wasn’t an employee but an employee sibling as if that justified her leaning all around food and drinks. She was acting as if I was the problem even though we paid for food we didn’t eat or happy with and the way she treated us was even worse . I left sooo mad!...
