I think I may have played here ages ago, but I didn't remember it much. Knowing the layout is definitely beneficial, as there are a few doglegs here and there and traps in strategic spots.
I was going to play whites but the people I walked on with were playing blues. That put the traps right in my range... And I got in 2 of them. I will say, compared to some other courses the traps were pretty darn well maintained. I was in the sand 5 times and it always played like it should. It wasn't hard pan, or anything crazy.
The greens are not well maintained, but they run fast. The pins were in tricky spots. I was fixing ball marks on every green. So, they were soft, which was nice, you could attack the pin, but it seemed nobody fixed their marks. One guy in my group didn't fix his, 3 feet from where the ball was, and in my line. There was a break so I putted around it, then fixed it as I walked by.
Last this is their are a few holes with water that can come into play and the trees are no joke. The fairways are ample, but you'll pay if you miss them. The grass is fairly typical but greatly maintained public grass with lots of patchy places.
Overall, though, I'm not going to complain. It's my third round at the third course in 3 weeks, as I try to get back into playing.
Oh, about the pace of play. Just over 2 hours on the front, but 2:40 on the back. That stunk.
Prices are a bit higher than I remember, but with everything going on, it's no surprise. I'm just...
Read moreI am so fed up with Rancho Los Amigos Golf Course Banquet Hall, they rent out their hall for parties and they disturb the peace of surrounding home owners with their LOUD MUSIC!!!! On 5/26/18 at about 9:30 pm the music from the Los Amigos Banquet Hall was shaking the windows of my home, and the music could clearly be heard through out the inside of my home DISTURBING MY PEACE. At 10:30 pm I called Downey Police Department to complain about the LOUD MUSIC, at 11:30 pm the music was still at full throttle, I drove over to the Los Amigos Banquet Hall and spoke to the security guard that was on site, and I told him that the music is a disturbance to surrounding homeowners, at that point it was almost midnight and the security guard told me that the music would be ending in 8 minutes, I drove home and at 12:20 am in the morning on 5/27/18 the LOUD MUSIC is once again blaring from the Rancho Los Amigos Golf Course Banquet Hall, I want their license taken away from them or whatever they have that allows them to blast their music, this is completely...
Read moreWorst experience golfing in quite a while today at Los Amigos. Course was in its usual ok condition, so not too much to expect there. But pace of play was horrible. First, tee time was 20 minutes late. Oh, they added a solo 5th to our group. I put up a minor protest, but it wouldn't have helped anyway. The fellow was nice enough. Problem today was that about 2/3 of the groups on the course today were fivesomes. And, most of them were elderly walkers. First, you can't book a fivesome, so how were there so many groups? And tee times are scheduled 2 every 15 minutes. Pretty dense. Then...walking????? If you're going to allow someone (once in a while) to squeeze a fifth, they should be forced to pay for and take an electric cart. No marshall on the course to try to keep things moving. Wouldn't have helped anyway. Round ended up taking 5 hrs, 45 minutes. I don't know any other course that allows this kind of slow play. Really...
