I don't usually give 5 star rating unless a place is near perfection. I was pleasantly surprised by the variety of food and quality in a lunch special. Yes there is room for improvement, but I liked the things they did well enough to give them a five.
I ordered the chicken with garlic sauce lunch special for $9. I got a choice of 1 of 3 soups and and around five appetizers. I got the hot and sour soup and a spring roll. The soup was fine and the spring roll very good.
The special also came with "safe" sushi and a salad. Three small diameter pieces of sushi rolls without any fish were very nice. It even came with a good amount of pickled ginger. The small salad was also nice with a normal Japanese style dressing.
I am a big fan of variety, so that strongly influenced my rating. What really put it over the top is the variety of quality vegetables in with the chicken. They included some of the best pea pods I have had in a while, baby corn, bamboo shoots, water chestnuts, green peppers, onions, mushrooms, and celery. There were only two pieces of celery. Too often places pad out a dish with celery because it is so cheap. And I don't like celery very much.
What they consider spicy isn't, at least in the garlic sauce. My usual limit on spicy is moderate use of the sriracha sauce in the red bottle with the rooster on it. The dish was so good just the way it was served that I didn't mind at all that it wasn't spicy.
This is one of the best $9 I have spent in a long time. I am looking forward...
Read moreWe have been coming to Kashin Gardens for years and have always found the food to be the best in town, typically I'd give this place 5 stars, but not any longer. It seems that the quality has been getting progressively worse. We generally get the combo plates and tonight the chicken wings were small, the meat in the chicken fingers and shrimp was small, they were over battered and overcooked, neither have been crunchy in the past, the chicken teriyaki was stringy and extremely chewy. My wife threw them away. I know that COVID has hit the industry hard, but now is not the time to be skimping on the quality and serving sizes to try and make up for Lost ground when in actuality you are probably just chasing away the customers that have remained faithful to you during these hard times. It is evident I'm not the only one to notice this because tonight when I went to pick up my order, the parking lot was empty and mine was the only bag for pickup, we're talking dinner time, when usually there's no place to park and the wait is longer. To bad, used to enjoy...
Read moreHaving a wonderful day with friends and needed some fast filling food. Called to place an order I place regularly, 3 orders of sweet potato sushi a homestyle (deep fried not soft) tofu, vegi fried rice scallion pancakes, and miso soup.
The woman on the phone(who later claims to be the owner) bullied my partner. While ordering he called it the "deep fried tofu". She said there was no deep fried tofu on the menu. They went back and forth about it for a moment or two when I realized she knew what he was talking about. She simply refused to add it to the order until he called in homestyle tofu. When i finally got on the phone she took a slightly different tone, as A fellow local business owner i know the importance of tone while speaking, and i promptly let her know her tone and communication expectation were outlandishly unprofessional, she proceeded to hang up on me. Food is usually incredible, but as a patron of this restaurant well over 10 years i've never felt so disrespected, when all that needed to happen was a simple ok so 2...
