Nelson House — Restaurant in DuBois

I've lived here my whole life, and frequented the Nelson House later in the evening for drinks. I had never actually taken the time to go in for dinner though... I now realize the error of my ways. I took my girlfriend in for our five year anniversary. We were looking for something new and different and being that neither one of us had eaten there, it seemed like a perfect fit. I ordered the Steak and Coconut Shrimp. She order the Chicken Marsala. Both meals were absolutely amazing. The Steak was the most tender steak I've ever had in a restaurant, cooked to perfection just the way I ordered it. You can tell when they say "they make everything to order" they are being serious... Or I should say you can taste it. This establishment gets to the roots of the true taste of their dishes by not over-seasoning to hide defects in meat quality. All produce were fresh and crisp. The restaurant, bathroom, and bar were all VERY clean. Our server was on point and polite, but not annoying. Our cups never went empty. All in all I would consider this a perfect dining experience... Heard so much about this place. Advertised as "Fine Dining". Made reservations two days ahead of time & dressed very nice for my dining experience. Was seated in back of restaurant by the kitchen and waitress station. Waitresses were wearing shorts but polite. Inside was decorated for Christmas when it is August. Food was okay. Ordered Nelson House Stuffed Steak, which, I had heard was wonderful. Maybe a bad night for chef because it was tough with a slather of crab meat in maybe a third of the steak. Side salad & vegetables were good. Did not finish meal or ask for doggy bag. Honestly, for price, atmosphere and chance to dress up I will go to Ruby Tuesday or...

On the advice from my friend Jeff Baronick my Aunt and I had dinner here. My first time ever at the Nelson, the food, service and casual atmosphere are Absolutely Great. I have to concur with Jeff, They offer among the best food on the planet!! Alex is fantastic, food and drink, she delivers it all! their food, Superb!
