We drove over from McCaysville to check out Rods Rolls. We were excited to check out the much hyped vegetarian options touted online including some Thai rolls. We were disappointed at the long list of items posted listing things they were out of. This included all pasta, fried rice, steamed rice, hush puppies, and a few other items I cannot recall. Our group re-evaluated and they were able to accommodate our wishes. I was really surprised that a place with Rolls in the name only had a couple of rolls, not including any type of vegetable roll. Our group enjoyed the crunchy shrimp bowls, vegetable bowl, and fried cod and shrimp. Cole Slaw was excellent. Onion rings were amazing and French fries were pretty good. If they hadn't been out of pasta, we would have explored their pasta menu, but we'll have to come back again. I did find it a little odd there was very little Asian inspired items on the menu with all the hype, but their seafood menu (in the mountains) was pretty nice. Wesaw some folks enjoying peel and eat shrimp and snow crab claws. If you are looking for an eclectic menu, this...
Read moreI ordered the Copper Basin Sushi Bowl (altered for my Keto needs per my special request) and my husband ordered a bowl (1 meat & 1 side) with pork chops & fried rice. I loved the Sushi Bowl. The salmon was cooked but cold and was perfect with the cream cheese. I had never had anything like it but I was VERY pleased. My husband didn't love the pork chops but only because he is not accustomed to the Asian flavorings. I tasted them and thought they were very good for Asian flavored pork chops. The 2 chops were thick cut and well done but not tough.
This is not your typical Asian restaurant. It has its own charm and unique flair which I completely respect and admire. If you want the same basic Chinese/Asian experience you find everywhere else this is not the place for you.
Amount of Food: moderate to large amount Variety: offers different main courses (you may want to call and ask what they are serving before you arrive) Atmosphere: polite & helpful staff, clean and...
Read moreRod's is a quaint little off the beaten track place that is great if you understand what you are getting. An unpretentious, quirky, small town restaurant with a very varied menu.
Orders are placed at the window and the food is then delivered to your table. Prep time was a bit slow, but the fact the food is 100% freshly prepared and served still too hot to even eat made a couple of minutes wait worthwhile.
The food was quite good and again, served piping hot. The breaded fish was tasty, fries were excellent, but I found serving fish with a side of Thousand Island dressing odd. (Is that a thing?)
Peel and eat shrimp was a great choice.
Of course, no visit is complete without getting a few of the spring rolls. Fried to a nice crisp, with a delicious filling.
It isn't fancy, but if you are in the area, it is well...
