Very disappointed on our return visit! We were here a few months ago and raved about it so much that we asked our friends from an hour away to join us there for dinner. Over the course of the night we were told they no longer make iced tea (it's on the menu and had it a few months ago), they no longer have greek dressing for salad, they did not have Miller Light to drink and they brought me the entire wrong salad (which mistakes happen but it took until everyone at our table was completely finished to bring me the correct salad). I should mention we arrived at 5:30 and were the only ones on the entire balcony so it was not busy. Then at the end of the night our friends were charged $72 for 2 steak salads ($24 each) and 2 root beers ($2.50 each) as we were not given a bill just a machine to sign and of course put a tip. My math may not be the greatest but where I come from this would equal $53 before tax not $72. After this whole experience we are so disappointed that it has changed for the worse in such a short time! We will not be returning.
Update: I appreciate this restaurant responding but I must set the record straight. I did in fact try to contact the restaurant that evening and could not get through, understandably it was Saturday so I emailed and received no response through the next day. We were told specifically no iced tea (ignore the menu), no Miller lite on tap or otherwise, no Greek dressing any longer and our friends were charged additional. I can completely understand an error or two absolutely! When we start hitting 4 it does disappoint what we felt was a phenomenal restaurant previously. Unfortunately our friends said they are not interested in returning but we are open to giving it another chance at some point...
Read moreDue to a FB post by the Doyle saying service is slower on band nights that reservations are recommended, I called to do just that. They suggested a 530pm reservation for a 630 band. 2 days before the reservation I noticed on FB that the band was now a Solo. Fine, no problem. We arrive and are seated at one of only 2 tables in the restaurant. That's odd, 2 tables. At 630 still no food or music, after questioning the waitress about the lack of music, she says the time changed to 7pm. We are the only one in the dining room and still no food at 630. We got our food at about the time the soloist started, remember 530 was our reservation time. The soloist was put in a corner across the hall from the dining room in the bar area to play, originally they wrre to play upstairs. We asked it we could go to the area to see the soloist and the waitress said there were no seats available. Again, the whole reason for the reservation was to see the band. We couldn't hear that well in the next room. It was a nice evening to sit and talk none the less. Our waitress was ok with service nothing exceptional. The room was very cold, we had to keep our coats on the entire time. I did like that the owner came to our table to thank us for coming out. That was within the first 30 or so minutes of our visit, so nothing to bring to his attention at this point. The food was good but pricey, $35 for a coffee, water, 2 beers and 2 cheese steaks. For many reasons I will not be rushing back to...
Read moreMy friend and I stayed at the Doyle Hotel in mid-December. Unfortunately, the block the hotel is located on lost power during our stay, which was out of their control.
We have to give a huge shoutout to the owners and staff member Tim, who were incredibly accommodating. They brought us extra blankets, moved us to an alternate room with a wall-mounted gas heater, and as it started to get dark, they even brought us a candle!
Luckily, the power was restored before the restaurant/bar opened for dinner! Our meal at the downstairs restaurant was fantastic. We enjoyed fresh-cut French fries, a delicious salad topped with steak!
After dinner, we had the pleasure of watching Shea Quinn perform in the upstairs room/bar. It was fascinating to see the hotel transition from a quiet, power-less building to a lively space filled with people enjoying dinner and the show.
We highly recommend staying at the Doyle Hotel. It has the charm of a vintage boarding house, and the woodwork and architecture are truly remarkable. If you love antiques and a nostalgic atmosphere, this is the place for you. I can also see how it would be appealing to Appalachian...
