I am a local and have been to Mile Marker 8 many times (over 25 at least), usually after boating. It has a fantastic view of the Intra-coastal waterway and it is a good place to watch sunsets.
The bad:
Parking is absolutely abysmal, they have less than 10 spots reserved for non-residents & guest and even when there are plenty of spots available, the parking attendants will force you to park two blocks away in a dirt parking lot which toting a baby and two young children, it is a long walk and it is difficult to cross the busy highway safely.
Food is extremely overpriced. BEWARE, all of their food is prepackaged and microwaved...several times we have had pizza's delivered to us in the parking lot as their food is so expensive and terrible.
Service is the WORST in all of Tampa Bay bar none.
Almost on all of our visits, we have waited a frustrating 20-30 minutes before we finally give up and one of the adults walking to the bar in order to get a drink order submitted. Afterward, the server will get mad and then come over with a huffy attitude, of 'why didn't you simply wait longer?'. I mean really, how long should we be waiting when you have three young kids anxious to get a drink of ice-tea, or water? one hour? two hours?
Lastly this is a warning to everyone that enjoys liquor from their bar.
They dilute their liquor including the Rum, Vodka and possible others with water. This probably didn't start until 2013 or early 2014, but we have proof, as I brew my own beer and after several times visits of receiving extremely weak drinks, I brought my Hydrometer and measured the alcohol content of shots received from their bar. Turns out that 80 proof vodka and rum runs less than 50 proof.
We are considering contacting the Pinellas County liquor license authority about this as this is a serious violation.
My apologies for this quickly typed review, but my family, several friends that are also locals in the Dunedin, Palm Harbor and Tarpon Springs area have all experienced this together and as locals we feel its worth sharing these negative experiences with others planning to go there.
A few more notes, sometimes they will not allow in patrons under the age of 18. This makes no sense as it is random on which days we get confronted about this. So if you have anyone in your group 17 or under, don't take the chance, its not worth getting...
Read moreThis is intended for Marker 8 Pizza
I know the first thing the owner is going to think and/or respond to this is "well it's uber eats so we are not responsible". I ordered a $20 pizza through uber eats tonight as I have many times in the past. When it arrived, the driver brought it up in a huge bag (way too big for the pizza) and said there was a problem - the pizza had slid around in it a lot. He then showed me the the entire pizza looked like it had flipped itself over several times... it literally was just a pile of mush. He took a picture of it. I called Marker 8 to explain to them what happened and that the driver was on his way back, however the "general manager" of the shop said since I ordered it with Uber eats, there is absolutely nothing that can be done on their end and the only thing I can do is call uber eats and cancel it. I asked her to please make a new pizza as that was my last $20 and she just kept saying I would need to pay for the whole thing if I wanted a new one again (the money was already charged on my card and is on the way to marker 8 pizza). I have no pizza here and I am sure I am going to have to do a lengthy report to uber just to get the money refunded 3 days from now at best. On top of not being understanding at all, the lady I spoke to absolutely refused to make a new one for me (I even said I would come pick it up myself) or offer ANYTHING of any sort after this situation. Once in the past I had called because the pizza was undercooked, and they offered immediately to make a new one which I then picked up (also an UBER EATS order) and it was no problem then, but tonight whomever the lady is claiming to be the general manager on the phone is could not have been any more rude. $20 may not seem a lot to many, but you have no idea what anyone's financial situation is and now having to wait 3 days to get it back just really sucks. As a customer who has ordered probably close to 20 times now, I would have thought you could have shown just the tiniest, slightest bit of anything but I see you just could care less. Thanks again for that, Miss "general manager". At the end of the day, it is your responsibility to make your customer happy and you 100% could have but you just refused. You even said this was the first time this has ever happened so you 100% could have done something about it rather than...
Read moreThe title of my commentary is: “I have erectile dysfunction, ask the night manager for details.”
I stopped by to watch the sunset with my service dog. Don’t bring your service dog to this bar unless you bring your body guards and lawyer with you.
The night manager threw me out.
Like so many bar/restaurant staff, he didn’t have a clue about the FEDERAL law that states that service animals do not have to wear a red vest with caution lights on it in order to go out in public with their owner.
A service dog doesn’t have to have any indication that s/he is a service dog. This is to protect the privacy of the person with the disability.
We also don’t have to have “papers” to prove the disability or to prove that our service animal is what allows us to leave the house safely. Google it. It’s not rocket science.
Laws are in place to PROTECT people with disabilities, not to advertise their disability. Would you want to wear an orange hat to a bar that reads, “I have erectile dysfunction. Ask the night manager for details.”
I tried to have a conversation with the Princeton University-bound night manager, but, he was angry at me for not following his version of the Americans with Disabilities Act. He was so rude. The night manager is why many disabled people stay home.
For a bar that offers a free shot if you go to watch the sunset, I would think the staff would be human. Nope. I was so disappointed and embarrassed. All eyes were on me - as if I was trying to get away with something. Yeah, I was trying to get away with enjoying the sunset, having a drink and being safe.
Hopefully they dealt with their cockroach problem. Note to Owner: palmetto bugs are cockroaches and cockroaches are palmetto bugs. Another...
