Gruff's Tap & Grille — Restaurant in Dunnellon

I have been here twice so far. Good positive experiences both times. Raci was our server both times, and we had a wonderful experience both times. My besty who accompanied me both times and our server Raci have been friends for many years and of course provides for a good experience as well. We were also joined by my friend's daughter this time. The food seems consistently tasty and presented well. I had the patty melt, and my besty had wings, which actually was the deciding factor to go to Gruff's, her daughter had the filet mignon. Everything was presented well, and we also had a couple of appetizers beforehand. Those were loaded potatoe skins and Boom Boom Shrimp. I have a thing for the Boom Boom sauce and with the shrimp? Yumm! My patty melt was cooked to perfection and was ever so tastey, accompanied by some average French fries. My besty said her wings were delicious as always, and her daughter said she loved her medium cooked filet which I was privy to because she let me have to last couple of bites of the filet and I was pleasantly assured that Gruff's has some good and consistent kitchen employees that are great at what they do. We will definitely be making Gruff's one of our places to go since we've moved here to Dunnellon...

UPDATE: Dined at this restaurant last week (04/24/25), very disappointing!!! We were seated promptly but we sat for over 15 minutes and still no Server came by to take a drink order, we had to flag someone down to get a Server and the real frustration was the Server took an order at a table where the people were seated after we were. Food was okay, it just seems like this restaurant just can’t stay consistent with service or food. After the past few bad experiences we have decided to make the drive to Ocala for our dining experiences.

Moved to the area a couple of months ago, have dined at this restaurant about 6 times since. Cocktails are good. Food is usually good, but the past couple of weeks, the food has not been that good. Champagne sauce salmon was good but portion size was not a regular filet size normally served, and last night’s ribs were overcooked, dry and difficult to cut off the bone. Sadly, the Salmon and the Ribs were their “Specials”. Don’t know if there’s a new Chef or what, but whatever the issue, I hope it gets resolved soon. Service was excellent as always!!! But, with the food being such a disappointment recently we’re going to take a break from this restaurant for a while and...

If I had to title my experience it would be "One bad time". Me and my girlfriend went there every single Wednesday night to order wings, Never had a problem, food was great, wings were great, Hot fresh, great staff, very friendly and accommodating, and a WONDERFUL price! However, the last time I went there was the last time. I had a new waitress, and my order got mixed up with someone elses, and I was waiting a REALLY long time to get my order... When she comes out to tell me that my order got mixed up but they were fixing it they would be out as soon as possible... So after she said that my food came out remarkably fast... when that happened they were hot so we ate them, but something must not have been right, because I got VIOLENTLY ill. a few days later I nearly passed out and had to go to the hospital. By then the bacteria had left my system, but I had an extensive ER bill... I loved eating there, but after that I can't anymore, not for a while anyway. Just make sure proper food handling and temperature procedures are done right from now...
