Read moreDuring the middle of an exceptionally cold mountain winter in the Carolinas, we decided to go find some fun in the Florida sunshine and discovered an AWESOME little place called The Rainbow Rivers Club in Dunnellon, Florida! The accommodations are cozy, clean, comfortable, and the décor is kitschy fun and very functional, with a full (pretty well appointed) kitchen and full sized refrigerator. The screened-in porch was a favorite hangout spot during our winter trip and from our porch we could see the end of the rainbow! A nice dock gave a great overview of the wilderness around us . We were excited that the Rainbow Rivers Club offered pontoon boats from the private dock, and we enjoyed a day on the Rainbow River on a boat. We packed lunch and snacks (in non-disposable containers – it’s the law and it keeps the river exceptionally clean and beautiful) and had a full day of boating and swimming in the spectacularly clear water. We saw a lot of fun wildlife such as otters, all kinds of birds, and a lot of fish! We noticed several scuba diving tours, and decided that our next visit might have to have one of those, too. We enjoyed dining at a local restaurant with good seafood that was only a short walk from our front door, which meant we could all imbibe a bit and relax without worrying about driving. Because our trip was in the “off season” for this place (though, honestly, it’s an amazing time of year to be there because it was warm, but not hot, and thriving, but not over-run with people), the proprietors were available to tell us about the area and suggest activities for our group, not to mention they’re just a delightful family and knowledgeable about both the Rainbow River and the nearby Silver River. This trip was with a group of friends, but after our experience, I’m excited about planning a trip for my family with the kids who love water sports. We will definitely return! Thank you for a fun and relaxing vacation, Rainbow...
