Maximo's Gyro & Kabob — Restaurant in Dunwoody

This place can work if you have a party of four or less and are willing to be patient for service. The food is good and not too expensive, and now that I've gone 3x I can see that it has devoted local patrons. But last night we brought 7 friends with our family, and a party of 11 was clearly too large for them to handle even though I phoned in at noon to give them notice we were coming. In particular, they had problems getting the orders to the right people and one of us did not get the correct food order until everyone else had eaten and the two checks had to be reworked even though we tried to limit to two checks to make it simpler. Server Ryan, who has been there all 3 Saturdays we've gone, is a swell guy, but the owners need to get him enough skilled floor help to serve everyone properly and timely. All 3x I've gone there has been a clear need for more help, or some of the other servers are still building their skills to be effective. The owners also need to use the same type of fluorescent bulbs and fill all 4 slots in every light as the lighting is inconsistent. So I hope they can get the help they need and update the decor a little bit as I'm prepared to be charmed by this restaurant but can't take the chance on bringing...

I’m not from Dunwoody and am not familiar with the area, but I am sooooo glad I found this place!!! I had time in between work appointments and decided to check Maximos out. The service from the owner was absolutely incredible. While waiting for my order, we spoke for a bit and I felt like I’d known him for years. With COVID, it’s difficult to eat anything other than fast food in between appointments and this was fantastic, fresh food served fast! The owner made me feel so welcome (from a safe distance) and followed very clear safety guidelines (sanitized pens, two different doors for entrance and exit, plexiglass, no dine-in, etc.). Once my food was ready, I took it to go and ate in my car. It’s was AMAZING!!!! I’ve eaten at many restaurants that serve gyro platters and the gyro meat here is by far the best I’ve ever had!!! I wish I lived closer to this restaurant. My family and I would get weekly takeout if I did!! I will be sure to go back any time I’m in that area. I highly recommend supporting this local business. I ordered an eggplant platter today which had a piece of hair on the bread. The waitress just brought one piece of bread as replacement instead of an entire plate. Was I expected to eat from that plate again? 😳 When I mentioned it to her, the old dude who is probably the manager/owner said that I had already eaten most of the food(I had eaten less than 1/4th)and the piece of hair was just a piece of clothing?? Even if I was blind and that hair was a clothing, there shouldn’t be anything in my plate that ISN’T food. I left two stars because the old man finally gave us a replacement plate and the waitress was nice but the man was unapologetic and smug.
