If you are in the mood for some great pizza after skiing, stop, turn around, and find another place. Home Slice appears to be a unique hole in the wall pizza place by the looks, but the pizza we ordered was all burnt around the edges, and not cooked in the middle. It was quite doughy. We lifted the burnt layer of cheese from the bread, it had NO Marina sauce! Yes that's right they forgot to put the marinara on! Secondly we ordered 4 pepperoni rolls and they gave them to us in a box. My husband lifter the lid of the box and all the cheese in 3/4 of the rolls had all the cheese melted out. He asked what happened to the rolls and they dismissively answered "Yeah, that's how they're supposed to be." Not only is the food terrible, but the service is completely unacceptable. We walked in at 5:00 after a long day of skiing. We were so excited because some realitives reccomended this place to us. (Maybe they got better food and service than we did). NO ONE greeted us or came to our table to let us know how to order. We sat down to take a look at the menu and finally after about 25 minutes of sitting we realized that in the corner of the place was a little window to order pizza by the slice. We still aren't sure if that is the only way to order, again not one asked us if we'd been there before or if they could help us. You can order by the slice but there was no pizza displayed with meat. I asked the lady if a pizza was coming up with meat, and she said, Probably not, we're way behind and if you order anything it will be an hour before you get you pizza. (The place BTW, was not crowded at all, so I can't understand why it would take this long for a pizza). We ended up ordering a 12 inch with pep. rolls, and a calzone as stated above. We decided to leave and come back in, in an hour and the lady taking orders said it would be placed in the "hot box" near the front door for us to pick up. When my husband got back, a little over an hour later it was not there. He waited a little longer and then asked about his order, and the lady said, UH, OH YEAH, it's coming." It was not made BTW. He is more patient than I. I think the pizza staff is smoking too much pot back there! He got the order at 6:45 and brought it back to the hotel. So, it took about 1hr. and 45min. for our pizza. It tasted no better than Mr.Gattis or Pizza Hut. If that's what you want your pizza to taste like, save your money and go there. Our bill was 64.00! Totally not worth it. A store owner across the street had warned us not to go there after we had already ordered, she let us know she had been here for 20 years and that pizza has never been good. She recommended a place downtown called Giovanni's. I wish we had canceled the order and gone there instead. Atmosphere, darker whole in the wall atmosphere, except dirty. The kind of place you would expect "good" pizza. Well sadly, it was quite the opposite. I think the only thing that will save this pizza joint is it's location. But now we know and will never go again and would never reccomend this pizza place to anyone. Save your money! So sorry, I was excited to eat here, but it was a huge...
Read moreThey couldn't fulfill our order, and their solution was offering to charge us double for less pizza.
Last night we ordered an 18" take and bake pizza, which was $19 + toppings, and some cheesy garlic bread. The payment was up front so they had already charged my card.
We waited in the store while they prepared the order for us. After 10 minutes, they called me to the counter and explained that there was a problem with the order. They had run out of the take-home trays / packaging for 18" take and bakes.
The person at the counter said they might be able to give us two 12" pizzas instead. They checked with their manager. Their manager said that no, if we wanted two 12" pizzas we'd have to pay the difference.
A 12" pizza is $16, plus we'd be paying twice for the toppings we wanted. That would bring our total up to over twice what we initially paid.
Now, here's the fun part: math! The total area of an 18" pizza is 254 sqin. of pizza. The total area of a 12" pizza is 113 sqin. of pizza. So two 12" pizzas would be 226 sqin. of pizza.
So in short, they did not have what I ordered after I had already paid for it. Their solution was to say "we can give you less pizza, in the wrong configuration, for double the price!" Are you kidding?
I said I'd just take a refund. When I did, they actually hesitated, saying they'd have to see if my cheesy garlic bread had already been started. The whole time, they acted like I was doing something wrong.
What else can I say? Unbelievable how bad their customer service is. Not coming back to...
Read moreStepping into Homeslice Pizza in Durango, CO, felt like hitting the jackpot on a perfect afternoon. The vibe immediately puts you at ease – their outdoor patio is huge and super inviting. Seriously, there's everything from comfy lounge spots to sturdy picnic tables, all under some nice shade. And here's the kicker, if you're a dog parent like me: it's totally dog-friendly! Our pup was right at home, even getting to perch on one of their cornhole boards (don't worry, no paws on the actual eating tables!). The whole setup, with those string lights and the relaxed atmosphere, just screams good times.
Now, onto the star of the show: the pizza. We went big with the 18" Heater, and holy smokes, it delivered! This pie was packed with flavor – think spicy sausage, a generous scattering of jalapeños, and green chilies, all melded with cheddar and mozzarella on a classic marinara. The crust was that perfect kind of crispy, and every bite was a burst of deliciousness. You can tell why it's a "staff favorite" – it's just that good.
Honestly, Homeslice Pizza nails it. They've got fantastic pizza, a laid-back and fun atmosphere, and they're genuinely welcoming to everyone, including four-legged friends. If you're ever in Durango and craving a killer slice in a cool spot, you've gotta check out Homeslice. We're already planning...
