Sage Fresh Eats — Restaurant in Durango

Came in for the first time because of positive reviews about gluten free items, menu isn’t clearly marked and it’s set up like Chipotle or Mad Greens. The person assisting didn’t ask if I had any questions or were a new customer and seemed annoyed that I wanted to do two orders from the get go which set the tone for an unpleasant experience. When I asked a simple question about what grains were in the bowls he just told me to look at the plexiglass that gave 3 items (why isn’t the grains listed on the menu?) and he proceeded to add all to the bowl, so in turn I had to tell him I wanted only gluten free and asked if he could kindly add tofu and he was visibly and audibly frustrated with me. He took the tickets back and changed it and then irritatedly asked me if I had anymore changes. I even apologized to him and told him this was my first time in and I could tell he just wanted me to stop bothering him. Regardless of if the food is good or not, this made my experience humiliating. I’ve been in customer service for 9 years and would never treat anyone like that. It’s hard enough being gluten free (celiac disease) and I’ve had a long and tiring day. If you take anything from this review, I hope you use this as a reminder to always be patient and kind. Great food, great service, great experience, great lunch! We were driving through Durango on our way to Mesa Verde and stopped here for lunch - it was a wonderful find! Nice, clean, casual place with counter service. We were there when the door opened at 11:00 and ordered the TLT - Tempe, Lettuce and Tomato. It took a bit longer than we anticipated because they apparently burned the first ones. I was glad they didn’t try to just give them to us anyway - they wanted to ensure we had the best food possible. But it did take some time. The chips were amazing - I was expecting the normal potato chip, but they were amazing tortilla chips - be sure to get the chips with your sandwich. The dining room was clean and quiet, and we had a really nice lunch here. I would definitely return to try some of the other menu items. My husband and I ate here a week ago and I got the full salad with berries. It was good, but there were just a few berries and I paid for the full added chicken but did not get chicken with order. We took it home so did not let restaurant know. I told my friend that my husband liked his sandwich, but they left off chicken from my salad and she went there with another friend. They both ordered chicken on the side with salads and both were served without chicken. She had to go up to the counter to ask for chicken and then she said they gave her cubed chickenand it did not seem fresh or grilled and it was not good so she could only eat just one bite to try it. I don’t think we will be returning because I would get chicken with my salad and since my friend said it’s not grilled and fresh…seems very expensive for portion sizes you get. I almost always have leftovers when I eat out & the full salad it did...
