Beware ordering from Ichiban 18 in East Brunswick. I just had an unreal experience with an extremely nasty business owner! We order from Ichiban 18 in East Brunswick fairly often - both sushi and hibachi. Tonight, we brought in both, but the sushi (lobster and salmon rolls), for some reason, smelled funny and tasted awful. I called the restaurant to let them know about it and that I was going to bring it back and all I heard on the on end of the line was denial, and how it was fine and nothing was wrong with it. I said that we've ordered the same thing many times before but that something was wrong with it tonight. I explained that I didn't want to bring it back because it would take over 30 minutes door to door and that we were hungry. Why would I want to do this if there wasn't something wrong with it??? We went round and round for several minutes. I explained again that it had always been good in the past but that something didn't smell or taste right tonight. She finally said that I could bring it back but she wouldn't give us our money back, or a credit. She then said, "don't come back and you can never order from my restaurant again", and hung up. I'm not one to post things like this but after that treatment. Actually, this may be my first restaurant review. I just felt like I had to let people know how a customer...
Read moreOnce again I tried to go to itchiban since we enjoy Japanese cuisine and I had visitors from German. The food and show was just k since no sauce was offered at all and very little show was offered. Anyhow the food was k. Once we got the check which my Germany friend was going to pay I explained the bill because the tip was included in the total and for 4 people 18 percent was added. Without even asking the waitress explained her boss told her with 4 people 18 percent had to be added. I will not return ever again and not recommend to anyone because I strongly feel that tip should be addd by the customer based on the service. If the restaurant wants to put a suggested tip thatâs fun at the bottom but it should never be added to the actual bill. Itchiban has raised their prices several times in recent future and as I said this needs to stop and the restaurant owners need to pay minimal wages to the waiters to perhaps fix this issue. This same issue happened to me before in itchiban however I thought let me try once more. Very disappointed however there are other Japanese restaurants that do not add tip...
Read moreI came from New Hampshire to visit my East Brunswick, New Jersey family. All of us enjoy the Koto Japanese restaurants in my home state. At Shogun, I was shocked by the dreary décor and atmosphere; the slow and inattentive service; the poorly-stocked salad bar; the poorly-seasoned, carelessly-presented food; and, most shocking of all (as another review noted), the preparation of take-away meals on our hibachi table, while still cooking ours and packing it long before we were finished. After complaining to a 'thank you' woman on the way out, I was told that things would be better 'next time' For me, there will not be a next time; and it you want a proper dining experience, there should not be a next time at Shogun for you either. Overall a disgrace.
The young chef was very pleasant, kind to my grandchildren, and clearly unhappy when ordered to cook the take-away food; but this cannot...
