I’ve had breakfast at Sweet Jean’s Café every day since they first opened. During that time I have never had a bad meal. On the contrary, their food has always been excellent: well prepared, cooked to one’s liking, with large portions, creative offerings, and prompt service.
The staff members are extraordinary and go out of their way to not only make you feel welcome when you arrive, but also to provide you with prompt and attentive service while you are there. Unlike many of the “box restaurants,” don’t be surprised if they actually know your name and your preferences after just a few visits.
Sweet Jeans is a wonderful addition to our community, and one will frequently see repeat customers there as well as many first-timers. They also have a busy take out service. Sweet Jeans’ business has grown dramatically since they first opened, no doubt because of the care they put into their food preparation, customer service, and ambience. They have repeat customers for a reason.
In looking at the reviews for Sweet Jean’s, I noticed that nearly all were five stars – which is truly what they have earned. However, I was a bit startled to see a one-star review by D.C., who apparently didn’t have the integrity to emerge from anonymity when creating his/her post. I was curious about this person, so I did a little digging.
First, I noted the poor, barely comprehensible writing skills, but since they weren’t writing a novel, I gave them a pass on this. This person has posted 25 reviews from places such as nail salons, pizza parlors, doctors, diners, and restaurants. With rare exception, D.C. has trashed these places, giving them one-star reviews. One must question the person’s motive for giving such negative ratings to so many different businesses.
Perhaps D.C. has extraordinarily high standards. Perhaps they are used to frequenting only restaurants that are highly rated by Zagat. Perhaps they are used to even more attentive service than one receives from the staff at Sweet Jeans. Perhaps they are used to dining in restaurants with mahogany woodwork, fine china and linens, and a pianist providing soft background music.
But, alas, that is not the case. As I scrolled through D.C.s reviews, I discovered the one place that he/she felt deserved a five-star rating, a place that must meet his/her standards for high-quality culinary creations, a place that he/she must feel provides impeccable customer service, a place that he/she finds has a charming and comfortable ambience. That place? McDonalds! That’s the one establishment DC felt worthy of a five-star rating!
Enough said.
Give Sweet Jean’s a try. Like so many other customers, you’ll return time...
Read moreWe visited Sweet Jean's for the first time this weekend, and we likely won't return, or at least, we will not return for breakfast. The service was great. Everyone was kind and attentive. The prices were reasonable for all of the dishes we considered, which is always good. However, when it comes to the food, it was just okay.
The Belgian waffle had very little flavor on its own. It just tasted like flour, so there is no option other than adding a bunch of toppings and syrup if you want to eat it.
The omelet was well made, but it had more cheese than I prefer (no marks off for that).
The home fries were probably what sealed their fate for me, though. Similar to the waffle, there was no flavor to them other than just potato. There appeared to lack any sort of seasoning. They looked seasoned, but none of that carried through in the taste. Separately, there was no care given to the fact that different sized pieces cook at different rates. So, while most of the potatoes were cooked properly, there was a good portion that was charred beyond reason and was inedible. Honestly, it was tough to tell whether it was actually potatoes from the batch they made for me or just leftover burnt on pieces from one or more of the many dishes made before mine that came off the skillet when they scaped mine potatoes...
Read moreOne recent Saturday morning we met friends at Sweet Jean's Cafe for breakfast. Due to (recently lifted) Covid-19 restrictions, my husband and I hadn't yet had the pleasure of eating here. The atmosphere is that of a hometown dining room...very cheery and welcoming. We were seated within a few minutes of arrival and given menus to peruse while our beverage orders were taken. The menu is long enough to give many delicious options without being overwhelming. The four in our party settled quickly on our favorite breakfast items and our attentive waiter took our orders. Two at our table ordered Nonni's Eggs Benedict, another chose a Meat lover's omelette with Tater Tots ( substituted for home fries) and cinnamon raisin toast. The last person to order chose the Lumberjacks Breakfast, which was 2 eggs, breakfast sausage and bacon, homefries and 2 pancakes. The food was ready in what seemed no time at all and was delivered to our table in all of its deliciousness! Our orders were picture perfect, carefully plated and truly a feast. We will definitely tell others about this new favorite breakfast ( and lunch) discovery... and,...
