Pic-Nic — Restaurant in East Newark

We have been coming here for years, but usually for take out. The food is fantastic. It’s the perfect spot because kids and adults love the food. I had the occasion to take my kids and several of their friends out to lunch so off we went to Picnic- myself and 8 children. Picnic put us in a private room. They brought out the food lightning fast. The kids loved their fries and fresh chicken nuggets and pasta with butter. My salad and soup were delicious. But really the service is what makes the experience top notch. They checked on us quite often to make sure we had everything we needed. When my son got a splinter, I asked if they happened to have a needle or a safety pin and they didn’t. Instead of leaving it there, they went above and beyond and sent someone out to buy a sewing kit so I could remove the splinter. This place was always amazing, until recently. On several occasions, the food has been mediocre. On one visit, I had a piece of hairy mold in my rice. Just a few days ago, I ordered a whole chicken and got 3 legs and 1 breast. Unless it was raised near a nuclear power plant, there should no reason a chicken should have 3 legs and 1 breast. They're supposed to be taking the chickens right off the grill and chopping them up and throwing them in the aluminum container. I'm not sure why they're mixing chickens. OMG! The best Portuguese food I ever had in my life! I live about an hr away, and I will definitely be returning back with more family and friends to put them on this phenomenal gem! Crazy thing is, I found this place by mistake! Lol. We were going to go to another restaurant in the area but it was closed, this place was literally 900 feet away, my family was starving we were like, “what the hell, let’s give it a shot” omg! Thank god we did! Delicious seafood, so fresh, all the flavors are just perfect! Also delicious dessert! Carlos and Luis are phenomenal waiters that really make you feel like you’re at home.
