i have been to several chinese, china buffets, china grills, hitachi, cant name them all, i just learned by others to not order by the menu, the gamble was to high if you did one item by itself could ruin your day, the buffets were the best way to go especially if you did not know the names of any of the dishes, you cauld throw it away and try many others till you found what you really liked,, in the 70;s when i first good wind from my Mom's testimony the very first time in Bay City Mi. It took me a while if i couldnt spell it i woulded eat it,, My point is im no stranger this world, but many came and many went just that fast,, then "Cov" struck and shut down most of them all, and not to many could get back up,, some very resturants even lost there place of biss., from these shutdowns many never came back up, i know many lost there chefs nor there cooks and there recipes and dishs never came back completely, with out the chefs who were great at there gift and the many years of talent my still not survive the loses.. But at this ""China Buffet in Tawas Mich, has come back with such powerful dishes and lost techniques that even i was taken in shock with a first time visit and was already predicting failure, but i was beyond amazed and emgarrassed at the same time,, 1year ago they were able somehow to hide away an came back with such fantastic recipes from multiple places of biss, may even found once again from other countrys the lost recipes and combined all of those wonderful dishs and brought them into 1 place 1 city, and 1 buffet and it is in Tawas Mich, dont pass threw with atleast...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe ate lunch here on a Saturday. They recently opened back up as they have now implemented COVID mitigation procedures. We felt safe being there. All patrons had to wear masks (unless they were at their table/booth eating) and wear plastic food-service gloves before they could touch any utensils at the food carts. They had the food carts arranged so that the employees (who also wore masks) are on one side, and the patrons on the other. There is plastic dividing the patron-side and employee-side of all food carts. There are also hanging cloths between each booth so that you can't see those sitting at booths on either side of you. All dishes, trays and drink cups are disposable. I think they did a great job of accommodating the mitigation needs of everyone. Oh, and as always, their food was hot & delicious! I did notice that their prices increased. But I guess they have to pay for all of the disposable...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe have been to 5 different Chinese restaurants in the surrounding area and the strange thing is that every dish you order is sweet. Every place puts sugar in everything. There is not a single Chinese restaurant that serves dishes as they do in the down-state of Michigan. The China Buffet is the worst place of them all. Not a single dish is made fresh. Everything they serve is pre-cooked frozen items that are microwaved and put out. Iām not sure how they received 5 stars from any reviewer. I can only assume that they base their reviews on the all-you-can-eat and the price. There is no service because it is a buffet. Unless you have real Americanized Chinese food you can not really see and taste the difference that there is from every restaurant in upper lower Michigan and the lower part of the state in Macomb, Oakland and the surrounding counties and notice the vast difference in taste...
