We decided to stop here for a quick bite en route to Pennhurst after reading the reviews. We always look for Mexican restaurants and taco stands to try when we're out of town. This place was nestled in a quiet neighborhood and is definitely a hidden gem.
We were the only dine in guests around 7:30 on a Saturday evening but they seemed to keep busy with takeout orders. The restaurant was clean and quaint. The owner(?) was taking orders and waited on us and was super friendly and accommodating. I ordered horchata and it was sold out for the day but I was able to get Jamaican tea which was my second choice. It was flavorful and refreshing. My husband got Mexican coke in a bottle.
We got nachos for an appetizer and added carnitas. You can choose to add any of the meats they have. The nachos were delicious. The guacamole and pico de gallo were fresh. Everything was good on the nachos and there were hardly any naked chips as the toppings were plentiful and spread well. They also had black beans, cheese and sour cream.
Our first entree was tinga tacos, a plate of 3. The tacos were flavorful and juicy without heat.
Our second entree was tortilla soup. I often try tortilla soup at restaurants and this was different than I've ever had. This soup had a tomato broth rather than the typical chicken broth. The chicken was plentiful and everything in the soup went together so well. I would love to have this soup again if we're ever in the area.
We tried both of the homemade hot sauces... The red was hot and had a little too much heat for us but the flavor was good. The green was mild/medium and had an amazing flavor. We used the green sauce on our nachos and tacos.
We got a piece of tres leches cake for dessert later in the hotel.

Read moreI really wanted this place to be good since it’s so close to my house. But, I was very disappointed. My girlfriend and I ordered several different items, more than we could ever finish, so we could taste test. The nachos were ok. The fajitas steak was too well done and dried out. The carnitas tacos were juicy but very bland. Chicken Enchiladas were also very bland. I hate submitting a bad review but it all just lacked any kind of flavor. I’ve tried every Mexican restaurant in the area and this...
Read moreEl Volcan exceeded my expectations with its mouthwatering Mexican dishes. The nachos were perfectly crisp, loaded with flavorful toppings, and had just the right amount of spice. The tacos were equally impressive, packed with tender, well-seasoned meat. The homemade tortillas were a standout—they were soft, fresh, and not greasy. Overall, El Volcan delivers a delicious and authentic Mexican...
