I would usually give Maine Fishmarket 4 stars but the food I received yesterday deserves less than one! I got three fried seafood platters 2 with whole belly clams and one with strips. The whole bellies were almost the same as the strips! When I complained to the Manager, she said unfortunately the whole belly clams they received were very small. Do you think this is something you could tell your customers beforehand? If I had known I would have just ordered strips, since that’s practically what I received anyway. It was a takeout order so I didn’t discover this until I got home. It’s a shame the way restaurants rip off people who order takeout. If I had eaten in the restaurant I would have sent the food back. Maine Fishmarket has not been the same since adding on the new part of the restaurant. I guess they have to pay for it somehow at the expense of their loyal customers! 😡 I am very disappointed in them and their cavalier attitude about the situation. Back to Chowderpot I shall go. Update: On 4/3/25 I went and ordered 3 takeout dinners. I attached pictures of the moldy bread they put with one of my dinners. I called to warn them about it, they insisted what I had was not mold, that it is Dill bread! If getting takeout, check your orders carefully before leaving here. I don’t see how the person who packed the bags couldn’t see this bread was moldy. I also emailed to tell them and received no response. Hoping they figure out what happened so THIS never happens to another customer.

I had really high hopes for this place as everyone raves about how good they are. I would put them in the category of slightly above frozen food. Every meal comes with 2 side options. The first is either rice, French fries or baked potato - the fries are frozen. The second option is cole slaw, chefs choice of vegetable or pasta salad - the veggies are FROZEN!! Check out the pictures!!! In addition to the side options, you get a choice of soup or salad. Wait staff just asks soup or salad? Turns out the soup is clam chowder. It's not bad but nothing spectacular. The salad is something from a second rate diner. The soup or salad is served first. On top of all this they deliver bread to the table. The main courses are a myriad of seafood options that are basically broiled, buttered or fried. The broiled plates we got were dry dry dry - check out the pictures and you can just tell they are dry. The fried options were alright but honestly not much better than buying a bag frozen myself. The coconut shrimp is served with a side of Ken's sweet and sour sauce so they can't even make their own sauces. Basically this is a frozen restaurant that serves gigantic plates of food and everyone takes leftovers home. Honestly go to your local butcher or fish market and buy what you want frozen and heat it in your oven say home and you'll save a ton of money and get the same quality.

Update Feb 2023 Stopped in on a busy Sat night. Wait was only 30 mins. Seated in the main dining room. Jeffrey was our server and he was very friendly. The shrimp cocktail was excellent. Large size and cooked perfectly. I got the broiled swordfish special. When I asked if it was a thin or thick cut he asked how I wanted it cut. Got a thick cut piece. Again, cooked perfectly and moist. Not dry at all. Oct 2022 Had a craving for fresh seafood and Maine Fish Market was the 1st place I thought of in Northern CT. We went mid-day on a Sunday and it was very busy. The NE Clam Chowdah was very flavorful thick & creamy. Whole belly clam were golden brown and tasty. This day the clams were on the smaller side, so the bellies didn't have as much briney taste as I would have liked. With fresh seafood coming in daily, the next days shipment could have been different. Our server, as well as the others, were hustling to wait their tables. Seems they may have been short staffed but the servers were getting it done and still made you feel welcome.
