I've never had an explicitly bad sushi experience in the 10 years that I've eaten sushi and the probably 30-40 sushi restaurants that I've gone to. That changed tonight when I ordered take-out from Mei Tzu.
We ordered over $40 worth of sushi for two people, and I ended up only eating a few pieces. My first bite set the trend ---- the yellowtail roll tasted incredibly fishy. That was the first time I have ever tasted such a fishy taste in a yellowtail roll. My dining partner had the same reaction upon her first bite. The next bite, of salmon sushi, was not quite as bad, but still had a distinct fishy residue that indicates a severe lack of freshness to the fish and/or low grade fish quality. The Angry Mike roll was my next bite, and it tasted OK, maybe even decent, but my lack of trust for the food was already set in place, so that tempered my enthusiasm. I moved on to the spicy tuna hand roll and was let down by the mushy, certainly not fresh seaweed wrapping, which led to the hand roll falling apart after one bite. With the terrible taste of the fishy yellowtail roll and salmon sushi still in my palate, I couldn't finish the rest of my meal.
I hope that this was an off night for this place, and am surprised at the long list of good reviews for the place, which contrast so much with my 1st experience tonight. I won't be giving them a 2nd chance, though, and I caution all future patrons to think twice, since this may not be a one-time...
Read moreI live in East Windsor, and we have ordered take out multiple times from here. I'm also a vegan and gluten-free. This menu offers many options for me while also having plenty of delicious dishes for my partner who eats everything. I've enjoyed the miso soup and the pad Thai noodles, which I requested without eggs. They were very accommodating and even called me on the phone to make sure that they understood my special requests, which can be made when ordered online. The menu also has dishes that are gluten-free and vegetarian. They even have gluten-free soy sauce available. They are busy, so plan ahead because it takes a little while for the food to be prepared, but it's worth it. And the prices are very reasonable too! I've never noticed many people eating in the restaurant, but they do have a nice place to be seated. I highly recommend...
Read moreI tried this restaurant as a group dinner with my coworkers and was shocked at how long it took to receive our food. A total of 6 of us were sat down for an early dinner. We ordered appetizers and drinks and shortly received them. However, all members of our group ordered some type of sushi which is where the problem lie. The restaurant had a single sushi chef who struggled to keep up with the demand. I will admit that the sushi was okay but the fact that we had to wait approximately 2 hours from ordering to get our food was not acceptable. The manager provided our table with crab rangoon to appease us while we waited but the wait was far longer than expected. I hope it was just a bad night and maybe we will try again but I wouldn't recommend that everybody at a table...
