We enjoyed our time at Bay Leaf quite a bit. We went with a friend who had just moved back from London and was concerned he wouldn't be able to get good Indian food in Minneapolis. Well, his concerns are negated. Everything we got we liked although we didn't try anything from the Indo-fusion side of the menu. A couple things to keep in mind: They serve you on paper plates so it's not too fancy if that's what you're looking for. The food is quite spicy so don't have false bravado and order things too hot. This is not a place to impress your date. If you get the goat as your protein as I did, there will be many, many, many little bones which you must chew very carefully and remove with great care. (see pic) I'm sure I missed a couple that at one point I felt, but then, unfortunately couldn't find again if you know what I mean, and then the swallowing happens. Rats. So if I keel over while I'm writing this just know it's the perforated bowel. I asked if this was typical of their goat and our server said it was. It was tasty, just very, very boney. It's a smallish place, only 7 or 8 tables so don't show up at rush hour and expect not to wait.
So I will gladly go again, just probably not...

I placed an order today and, in addition to leaving him a message as per his last text and adding special instructions to my order, I did receive two free mango lassis. I'm confident now that they do strive to improve their service and will go the extra mile to rectify any situation. Everything I've had from them has been very good and I'll continue to order from them in the future.
(8/16/2016)Good food but lack of attention to details.
I have ordered food from them though a delivery company called Foodsby and in general the quality of the food itself is good. When I received my most recent order however, they had failed to include the mango lassi that I hard ordered. After calling them I accepted their offer to have the driver come back and deliver one by 3PM. After receiving no word from them by 3:15 I tried calling only to find they had closed for the afternoon and I was still left without a replacement. Needless to say I will be very, very hesitant to order from them...
Read moreI have been to dinner here 2-3 times with my significant other and have ordered takeout well over a dozen times. We enjoy the food immensely. The prices are reasonable and the portions are generous compared to other Indian restaurants I've ate at (e.g. the Malai Kofta came with 6 good-sized dumplings).
They've remodeled and come a long way in terms of ambiance since the first time I ate here.
The service is polite but maybe a little inconsistent. They followed up multiple times to see how the meal was and ask if we needed anything but took an inordinate amount of time to notice we were done eating and ready for the check.
Another quibble is the food can be a inconsistent at times. I always get the Malai Kofta and sometimes it is clearly made with different ingredients. It is easier to understand when the spice level varies a bit, but I don't expect the sauce to be a different color/consistency and have a different flavor. Not sure if certain chefs are not following the recipe on purpose or maybe there are ingredient shortages.
Still, they usually get it right and when they do they - hands down - have the best Malai Kofta of any restaurant...
